What is the best oil to use for preventing the razor blade to rust.
Food grade inox is all I have ever used based on the recommendation of os who used to hone my razors, i just sprayed a load onto a piece of cloth over a year ago and I just keep the cloth in a ziploc bag. To be honest I don't use it much, and if a razor is used daily I would question the value in doing it. That being said it's not a great deal of effort to do.
I've used mineral oil, when I store mine.
+1 on the mineral oil, that's all I use, works just fine.
PapaBear11,
As I live in an old, cold, leaky Victorian house, a few hundred yards from the English Channel, I use Sentry Solutions TuffGlide for my every-day razors : this works superbly :)
As the other posters have said, mineral oil will be fine for every-day razors - either plain mineral oil (BP grade) or Baby Oil (I used Johnsons).
Ballistol is also good (being principally mineral oil).
For intermediate term preservation, I use TuffGlide or EEZOX.
For long term storage, I use RIG grease on top of TuffGlide or EEZOX.
Have fun :)
Best regards
Russ
Agree on Ballistol for everyday purposes. Look out for a Japanese applicator bottle - they have a wick which applies the oil and keeps your fingers well away from the sharp bits.
IKEA Skydd is pretty good. It's a high purity, food grade (meaning low toxicity) mineral oil. A bottle will last a lifetime. I suspect it may be very similar to the mineral oil BP referred to above (that's British Pharmacopoeia rather then British Petroleum - petroleum oil is definitely not food grade).
Ballistol for me too, I've got the refillable pen applicator which works very well.
Ballistol here as well. well protected and it doesn't get gummy over time.
Either Ballistol or Frog Lube. I like Frog Lube though it does smell like Vick's Vapo Rub to me.
Cheers, Steve
Another vote for ballistol.
I just use good old Remington gun oil... not sure if that's the right thing to do or not. It works.
You know, I was thinking you might be joking. What the heck is a Fuzzaway? And how does it have anything to do with one of America's oldest gun manufacturers? But I got to thinking, and recalled that though you have a crazy sense of humor...
Anyway...
To my surprise, when I looked, sure enough, the fuzzaway:

And yes, it's made by Remington! A Remington. Though I have never heard of the above Remington before though! I doubt that it's actually the same company I was referring too. But weirder things have been known to happen.
The Remington oil I was talking about is actually from a gun manufacture as seen below :).

Fuzzaways were massive in the 80's, it's basically a sweater de-linter.
On the advert victor kiam said "I liked the product so much that I bought the company".
I just looked them up on ebay, $7 is pretty cheap. The original ones sell for about $45 or so and the more modern ones (like your link) seem to be about $20.
For long term storage especially in extremely humid environments, Ballistol is a good choice. But, as long are your razors are used on occaison and are kept in a fairly well ventilated environment you shouldn't have to use oil all the time on your razors. I keep mine in a custom made storage rack in the bathroom and since we have decent ventilation I never have any problems with rust or tarnish.
