found: razor with no bevel?

So I was looking through my eBay razors to see what I should try to sharpen up first, and I noticed one razor in particular has no bevel.

It is a Boker Red Injun No. 101, and from what I can tell it has no hone wear on the blade or spine, and no bevel on the edge. I haven't taken my 60x-100x microscope to the edge yet, but with the naked eye there is no sign of any bevel, not even a glint of light from that edge.

There is only a slight amount of tarnish on the spine of the blade, otherwise it is in perfect condition.

Is it possible that I have acquired a razor that has NEVER been honed or used? I'm stumped, I didn't expect to find this when looking through my cheap eBay purchases.

It could just have a really fine edge, so the bevel may be too small to see with the naked eye. I've got a couple of razors like that. Try looking at it under a magnifying glass.

There should be at least a factory bevel. If you got a razor with so little use, you really lucked out.

I have a few razors, mostly new ones that at first appear to have no bevel however careful examination reveals a really faint bevel and they all shave very well so don't go messing up a razor like that just to produce a larger bevel. You don't need it unless there actually is none and it shaves poorly.

My red injun has a very fine, almost invisible bevel as well. How does the edge feel? If it is dull feeling, then you may need to set a bevel. It can be done either with a 1000k norton or 1000k sandpaper on glass or similar flat surface. If it feels uniformly sharp, then try sharpening as normal.

My boker red injun was unopened when I got it, so it still had the factory edge on it. It was close to shave sharp, and only required final polishing. Your's may be in similar shape. Let us know.

I have found during the process of restoring razors that it is possible to buff the bevel off as well as the flat spot on the side of the spine caused by honing.

It is possible that the razor was buffed heavily and that is what makes it look this way.

Is it possible it is a wedge grind? Many of these show no bevel at all, or at least not one easily visable.

Red Injuns are hollow

Its definately a hollow ground razor, I havent taken the microscope to it yet. I may have a look tonight and report back. Possibly with pics.

I bought some MAAS the other day at Walgreens, so I might give that a shot and see if I can hone it up to shaveable sharpness too.
