Is she a goner?

Last night while stropping my Ohio Farmer 5/8 straight I noticed I had a few "streaks" or scratches on my strop after the first few passes. I instantly cited it as poor stropping and began going slower only to find that these streaks persisted. Upon further inspection of my razor I noticed what appears to be a small "chip" missing in the blade.

I bought the razor on ebay for not very much this past summer and I have enjoyed it very much. I also own a Ralph Aust I bought from SRD and it is a superior shaver, but I don't use it much because I didn't want to run the risk of damaging it as I am still learning this fine craft (started last March and I use both straights and DE's at times. I enjoy the straights but just don't always have the time with my travel schedule but that's another story). Anyway I bought the Ohio Farmer to practice and train on but now that it appears to be damaged I am very saddened by this. Would it be worth repairing and can it be repaired?

I have attached a picture. I apologize for the quality. I took it with an Iphone and the camera had a hard time picking up the edge and focusing on it. The notched out part is near the end of the blade. If you look hard on the first picture you can see a spot on the blade where it dips

Your razor will be fine, just needs a good honing job.

That hardly even reaches the level of a repair. I assure you that is an easy honing job and it can easily made good as new. Don't worry at all.

Hardly noticeable. A good honing by a professional honemeister would be good for it.

Not gone, just on hiatus. Still lots of meat left on that. :)

You might want to make this your learning razor to hone on as well. This way you can fix it, then make it shave better than anything else you own. I know that it is just one more rabbit hole to fall down, but you are not going to live forever, and you can't take your money with you when you die:idea:.

I agree with the replies, minor chip, similar to a DOVO I have, honed it out with a 1200 grit diamond stone then resharpened with the usual 4k, 8k, and polished with a 12K waterstone then with green oxide paste on a paddle strop! she shaves better than ever!

looks like faucet contact to me...been there and done that. I was fortunate to use a local resource to hone mine. Hopefully you will find one close to you. Not a big deal by the looks of it!
