I just took the plunge and bought a high-end Robert Williams Damascus razor from SRD. Does Damascus hone like regular HCS and keep an edge like HCS? Anyone wishing to give insight, please do so. Thanks.

You have done it now! Nice razor.
You can take this opinion to the bank. I purchased an older TI Damascus razor from JimmyHAD and although he qualified it by saying "I am not a honemeister", he sent me a razor with an incredible edge on it. Jimmy......Thanks for both the razor and for sharing your knowledge with those of us figuring all this out.
There are several threads worth researching here on SRP about pattern welded steels.
The bottom line: if the steels laminated together produce a carbon content due to carbon averaging, or a laminate construction (san mai or other) with an edge material that will support acceptable hardness for edge retention, toughness and abrasion resistance, and, the edge geometry is correct for a straight razor, the pattern is merely aesthetic compared to a monosteel of similar carbon content (HCS). Function will be indistinguishable.
There are a lot of other variables, but this is a pretty safe general conclusion.
Thanks for the info guys.
