W&B wedge and Winchester projects
I've taken the plunge... I've decided on this Winchester 5/8 as my first resto mainly because I think it's pretty cool haha! Thinking the W&B will be next... My thoughts are that the Winchester should be fairly straight forward project for the first timer, disassemble, clean up, reassemble. It seems to be in pretty good shape and I like the detail on the scales... Does un and repinning effect the value or is that taken into consideration (considered normal) on restored blades? The W&B I think I would like to try my hand at making scales as these ones obviously are not original... it's 13/16 and seems to be full wedge, pre 1890 if I'm not mistaken.. is there somewhere to look for more accurate dating on these? Also do custom scales effect value at all? I run my own construction company/ handyman service and am very familiar with most any tool so pretty confident I can pick up the necessary skills fairly quickly, am I crazy to tear these things apart myself? I paid $40/ each for these on eBay and already have most tools I would need so not really into it for alot right now... Any opinions appreciated thanks!
