New Razor, looking for date and worthiness of restoration

I picked up a razor a few years back and have been diving into the whole straight razor shaving world over the past couple of years, but haven't expanded past my regular razor.

I decided to pick up a couple that I thought could be restored, as my other one had, no pitting, chips or cracks. There is light rust on one, but it doesn't look to have damaged the steel. On the Torrey there is a small bit of discoloring and I'm not sure if it's worth restoring. Just looking for some thoughts and possible dates for the razors themselves. If they are worth it I'd get them restored and honed by one of the guys here. I know the Torrey looks to have a bad edge on it right now, hopefully it can be salvaged.Thanks guys!

That Torrey has seen better days. It looks like the Klaas stands a chance. perhaps the scales from the Torrey will fit the Klaas. Check the length from the pivot pin to the wedge. Neither of them look to be particularly old.

^^ I think a scale swap is an excellent idea to salvage the Klass. Those arent original Torrey scales anyway I do not believe.

Yup, scale a swap was my first thought too. It could be that the Robert Klass pre dates the founding of modern Germany around 1918 by Prussia being stamped on the tang instead of Germany. I don't know for sure but others might.

I would agree. That Torrey may be good for buffer practice or a "display" item at best IMO. Swap the scales and you will have a nice looking razor after some clean up.

Oh goodness. I'd never want to try and hone that Torrey. I agree about the scales though; they're nice. The other looks to have a slight frown which you'll need to deal with. Nice patination on the other, but also a slight amount of rust.

Yes, the second one has a slight frown but there is hope for it! The Torrey is history. Scale swap agreed!

The Torrey is still useable, but it's just not worth a lot of effort. You could still clean iff the active rust and make it serviceable.
