I decided to make a new pair of scales for my old W. Greaves blade for now.

I decided to make a new pair of scales for my old W. Greaves blade for now. A person whom I won't mention was doing some blade regrinds for me a few months ago but told me some family issues arose & that he would not be able to do anymore for awhile or I'd have at least had him polish this blade for me. It is ok for right now but I can take it back apart later & polish it. I have a regular buffer & don't know if it will work with some extra wheels & some greaseless compound but I'm thinking it would work for now until I build me a buffer which is what I would like to do. Roy, cudarunner, sent me his plans quite awhile back. I have then saved in a file. If I remember right, this scale material started out as black but as I got them thinner, they have a transparency to them. You can actually see the blade through them. I used to use Mother's to hand polish new scales but I found that Maas works a lot better & is more glossy even though Mother's does do a good job.

Those came out very well. the shape is really nice. I like the minimum polished gleam of them.
Are they horn?

Thanks Tom. I was thinking the same. They really don't have to be polished just because they are in new scales.

very nice !! i love the shape of those scales ( and the blade but we already know that .lol ) something a bit straighter like your scales is what i was thinking on the Greaves stubtail i have the poll going on ...

Thanks my Greaves friend! I have some more already started a few months ago but haven't finished. I actually started on these months ago but they were on a different blade. I only had 1500 my highest grit sandpaper then but now I have 2000, 2500 & 3000 grit so I sanded them more & polished them. I have a Thomas Turner Everlasting blade similar but the Greaves looked a lot better in them so I went with 'em.

Real nice work on that Grievous blade Steve.
I like the spine notch half way up, adds a nice line break visually.
Nice choice of material and wedge shape for that blade.

I could have gotten fancy with the wedge & made one out of brass but I already had one made from lead so I went with that.

Thank you very much. I think they turned out good on there much better than the Thomas Turner Everlasting blade I have because of the blade geometry between the two.

Mike, you're so right about that spine notch or whatever they call that. I have rarely seen that on the Greaves blades. You actually don't see that too much but every now & then one will pop up. Thanks buddy!

I love the look of this one ,I like to see vintage blades with a bit of patina to them as every time I use them they give me a connection with the past.
