Thanks to SRD for getting this to me so quickly! I really was expecting it to take a bit longer to get here. I am extremely excited to get this razor, my first 7/8 (I am a bit nervous to have a hatchet like this against my face). The razor is absolutely beautiful and as you can see in the scales...the natural texture below the surface is almost 3 dimensional. It is extraordinarily pretty in person and very well made.

Nice razor! Love my Aust. And as a recent convert to 7/8 blades, trust me when I tell you you're probably not going to cut your head off. Your nose, maybe. But not your whole head. :)
Very nice. Let us know how it shaves (as if we don't already know). I've been lusting after that same razor myself. The horn scales are magnificent.
Fortunately I have a bit of facial hair under the nose so I can spare that part of my face! One thing I really like is the good bit of heft the blade has.Quote:

Beautiful. Aust makes a great shaver, and the streaked horn is lovely. I've also got one of his in "streaked" horn, but there's about two small dark gray areas on otherwise pure black. Your scales are quite nice.
I have this same in a 6/8. A year later (never honed since purchase) and still a reliable shaver.
That's a beautiful razor and I bet it shaves awesome. You can tell that the pictures aren't doing the scales justice. Use it for a while and see what happens when (if) you go back to a 5/8.

A couple of shaves in and I can say that razor really is a masterpiece. I will admit that the first shave with the 7/8 left a little to be desired, but I learned a lot about how to move it around a bit better. Shave 2 was fantastic. If this Aust is a typical example, then I think it fair to say that a lot of thought and craftsmanship goes into each one. It is well balanced, has a solid feel, and purrs like a kitten on the strop to let ya know it's happy!
It is substantially larger than the 5/8 and 6/8 I am used to, both blade and scales. This is not an issue to those who are timid about trying a larger razor out...much like learning one just has to think a couple of strokes ahead and plan the shave.
Thanks to a new member, I had the opportunity to hone and test drive one such beauty. With large hands, I loved the general weight & feel of the beefy spine & shank. 'Took a fine edge and gave a great shave.
I'll choose an Aust any day over any of the other contemporary makers/brands :D
Gorgeous looking razor. Congrats. A Ralf Aust is on my wish list. I've not tried a 7/8. My toys are all 5/8 or 6/8.
All of mine less this new addition are 5/8 and 6/8 as well. I admittedly was a little intimidated at first but its bark is a lot worse than its bite. Good shaves all in all...just a bit more maneuvering to be had. I can say that the stropping is actually a bit easier with the wider blade...not that I had a problem, but this one seemed to require just a tad less focus...perhaps as a result of its increased mass.Quote:

Having said all of that, this Aust really is a special razor. Worth every penny, if not a few more! I feel like TI would charge 1.5x for something of the same quality.
Been looking at those things since they came out. Gonna have to get me one I suppose.
