TSA and Straight Razors
Gotta fly North in the near future. I read the TSA website and although it basically says knives, razor blades, and an assortment of other sharp objects are fine in checked luggage I still would hate to lose a straight in the process for whatever reason. Last time out I caught the attention of a TSA guy with the x-ray machine who just had to get a look at my DE R41 (no blade inside). Fortunately I still have it. The Plan B (which is not all that bad) is to just bring my other $30 Muhle along for the ride; no tragedy if I lose that one. That along with a few blades in the checked bag will suffice. But, any real world experience out there with TSA and straight razors?? Even those "properly" encased in a checked bag??

Flew to Florida and back last month and no issue with my straight, in my checked bag.

I've flown a few times with a straight in checked, can't see an issue with that, just do not try carry on...

You can carry a knife in your checked luggage, and even a firearm if it is packaged correctly, so I don't see why a straight razor would be a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to put a SR in my checked luggage.

I've flown to the UK and US with straights in checked luggage and have had no issues. You sohuld be okay.

I fly almost weekly with a straight and double edge razor blades in my checked bag. Never an issue. I recently saw a guy getting his bag ripped apart at screen though. He was trying to carry on a DE and blades. They told him the razor was fine but not the blades.

If you know where your going ,you can mail it to your destination. I've done this to the hotel I was going,, just another option

Flew to San Juan with straight in checked, no concerns..

Flown all over the USA with a straight in checked luggage and no probs.

"Checked is never a issue when flying. As long as the item is secure in your luggage. (Although they may loose your luggage at times." You or anyone onboard do not have access to the storage hold of the plane in flight. (Unless you have pets and need to attend to them. They are in a separate hold than luggage)
"Carry on", now you got problems.
I have dabbled with this issue as well, and will probable need to fly in a month or two. I plan on " roughing it". Just bringing my Norelco. I don't even want to fuss with TSA with soaps and a Gillette multi-blade. (I even have a TSA "Fast-pass")
I don't need "Barney" getting itchy and confiscating my gear.

My air travel/checked bag straight is a Feather DX Folding packed in a toothbrush holder.
And I've never had a problem.
Makes for a compact kit, and if something was to happen to it they can be replaced.

If it's in checked luggage you are completely within TSA regulations to pack a straight razor. +1 on the don't forget and leave it in your carry on or you will likely be leaving the airport just minus the razor if your lucky.
I would be far more worried about it being stolen because I can gurantee you it will get your bag physically checked by TSA prior to departure. I would place it so they don't have to search for it and tear up your packing job looking for it. Also, take one your not going to cry over disappearing IMHO. Most people are honest but I have had friends lose knives somewhere in between departure and arrival.
Good luck.

Here is the TSA website; I would not take a chance on carry-on.
Prohibited Items | Transportation Security Administration
We even screen pilots at our location for travel, and no one can give me a clear yes or no on the disposable DE razor blades as carry on.

Yes for whatever the reason, TSA loves going through my stuff, especially my golf bag. I think I'm just going to check a bag and toss a few DE blades and an Arko stick in with the unremarkable (though competent) Merkur 33. Might be good to rough it for a spell....

Haven't checked a straight razor, but have done a DE. For carry on, a straight is an obvious no-no. I have taken DE carry on, and had the blade confiscated twice, out of a dozen flights. TSA site says safety razors are OK, but also ,emotion it is at the discretion of the checker, so YMMV. I've never had a problem, when I have gone through TSA Pre.
