New Chandler Custom

I don't have this razor yet since it's in transit, but thought it was worth showing if Joe doesn't mind me using his pics. They don't show the gloss on the scales but the grain of the wood came through pretty well.

8/8 stainless wedge with every feature I like on an older Sheffield style blade.
* Shoulderless grind
* Smile
* Thumb notch
* Barbers notch
* Worked back

Need to start growing a nice stand of whiskers for the inaugural shave with this one. :y

My face doesn't deserve something that nice ---beautiful work ---- a trophy razor to hang on the wall --- I'm sure it will shave as beautifully as it looks.

Glad you like it. The wood, btw, is Hawaiian Milo wood. A real pleasure to work with. The best way I can describe it is...elegant. Fine texture, subtle grain, not too heavy, reasonably flexible. Very understated figure that I thought went very well with this razor. DMS made a good choice, methinks. Pix are getting a bit better, but still don't show everything I want to show. :D

I won't pat myself on the back too much (because everybody's face is different, so results may vary), but it was the best shave I've ever had, on 4 days' growth. He may think it sucks butt. :p

Joe it really is beautiful. I don't know why but I always like the razors with a thumb-notch if that's what you call it. In some of the W&Bs and Dovo's they are called Bismarck or something like that. Does that name have any relevance to the type of style at all?

It arrived today and reminded me what it felt like to be 8 years old on Christmas morning as I opened the package and unwrapped it. That was a long walk down memory lane for someone my age - thanks Joe. :y

I have to say that as fine as this razor looks in the photos, it really has to be held in the hand to appreciate it's true beauty. It's substantial and hefty but balances perfectly with that thumb notch - for you shooters out there it reminds me of a pistol that's designed with the grip area as high and close to the bore centerline as possible. The Hawaiian Milo scales have a gorgeous fine subtle grain and Joe's CA finish looks like it's a quarter inch deep.

I stropped it up because I just had to and it parted every hanging hair that I waved in it's general direction without a sound. I have NEVER seen a blade pass the HHT so effortlessly.

Naturally I can't wait to shave with it but I'm determined to be patient and wait until tomorrow morning. I'll have 3 days growth by then, the most I've had since I started straight shaving. SOTD report will follow but I know already what it's going to say.

Now my problem is storing it. It seems too nice to go into a wooden jar with the rest of my razors. :hmmm:

Yeah...I need to find a better way to "present" them than a Priority Mail box and bubble wrap. :D Don't know where to procure razor boxes the right size, though, and I don't know how to build them. Ah, the learning never ends.

The Priority Box is just fine. My wife took mine in the house after delivery. She was standing there when I opened it. There would have been alot more questions if it had a fancy box. Luckily I just got "Do you really need another razor...you have 2."

No joke -- we have craftsmen, like Joe C., living among us to produce these beautiful specimens!

Well, we have a couple of old fellas left who restrict themselves to grinding old slugs(?)/blanks(?) to new shine.
There are very few craftsmen (that I know of) here who still produce straight razors.
Mostly only on special order and I have only seen pictures of their works.

Sorry, but until a short time ago the first name that came in my mind when thinking of modern "american"-labeled straight-razors was Kriegar.

I guess not to find many people here to be proud of those?

I can categorically state for the record that this razor does not suck butt.

It shaves so well as a matter of fact that I kept thinking "wow" "holy chit" and "my other razors suck" while I was using it.

People will be talking about these razors all over the world before long. I'm proud to have one out of the first batch.

That is a sweet shaver. I would love to get one. That one your great grand kids would say, my grandpa was one bad ass.
