PRC Siren 6/8" Round in Ivory

PRC Razors seem to be getting lots of love these days so, I figured I share mine as well.

This is their "entry level" model so to speak, currently priced at $120.00 USD. The Siren is a 6/8" round point, 1/4" ground blade in a limited selection of scales. I chose the imitation Ivory (some sort of polymer). I added an engraving on the spine but other than that, this is their bone stock, entry level razor.

It came nicely packaged in a carboard box, with the felt sleve and little leather key chain bearing their logo.
For the price, mighty nice!

I purchased the Siren, because I happen to prefer a 6/8" Round point, and it didn't hurt that is was cheaper than the other models.
It took 3 months to arrive, but well worth the wait.
I now have 3 shaves in with the razor, and I'm quite happy with it's performance. It came beautifully honed and it performs excellent.
Some folks like the look, other don't. I fall into the first catagory. It isn't my prettiest razor, but I like it and it shaves every bit as good or better than any other razor I currently own. The scales are a little chunky for me. If I could change anything it would be to have a wedge instead of a block.

So in summary: Great shaver for a great price and worth the wait.
I will probably order a companion in black soon.

Yes, the bit between the scales at the rear pin is square instead of wedge shaped (tapered). So, this gives the scales a chunkier feel. At least to me.

Not a big deal, but I discovered I have a prefference ;).

Very nice razor, especially at that price point for a 6/8! I am trying to decide which model order, leaning towards the Spanish point. Thanks for sharing!

The PRC uses a 'Spacer' and the TI a 'Tapered wedge'. A spacer will cause the scales to bend inwards when opening a razor and a tapered wedge naturally bends the scales outwards. A tapered wedge is the only way to go.

I have examined my Hydra when the wedge v. spacer debate started in the other thread. My scales do not flex in either direction during opening or closing.

OK folks, I'm headed now to open and close all my razors and observe them carefully. :idea:

I made my post in the PRC Hydra thread that led to the technical talk that led to your hinge-pin-mechanics thread. But, at least people see that their is more than one way to skin the perverbial cat depending on the tang shape, mainly IMHO.

3 threads discussing the comparative value of wedge vs spacers in straight razor design. Sorry, I stepped into this discussion. I just find the Siren's scales a little chunky and not as visually attractive as other razors I have. Functions fine, I assume it will function fine for years to come and if not -- Scales can be easily replaced. DF shaving razor either way ;)

Your new razor is Fantastic!

Since the other threads occurred I have decide my next razor purchase is going to be a PRC.

I have two Hart Steels.
They too aren't the bell of the ball in scale design, but do they shave really well.
I love them and use them consistently weekly.

I looked at Hart razors early on in my shaving experience, but the prices went up faster than my desire to have one. I actually like the look of the scales on both the PRC and Hart, but dont like the way they feel in the hand so much. No biggie, love the shave. I'm thinking of buying a second myself.
I dont think you will be disappointed with a PRC razor. I love what they are trying to do: offering a custom/semi-custom, heavy grind blade, in a variety of configurations all for a reasonable price. Thats pretty cool!
BTW: I was being a little cheeky. I love the depth of analysis and discussion that takes place on the forums. Lots of detail for anyone who cares to search, even if it is a little pedantic or obsessive on occasion. I'm occasionally quilty myself.

Some people get bent when something isn't traditionally designed, BUT still works.
I think a lot of people got educated in those threads, even me. Especially that tang design effects wedge design.

Thanks a lot for posting that pic, its worth a thousand words for sure. I was following the spacer/wedge debate too and couldn't understand it at all. Seeing your pic I finally get it.
