If I may draw on your experiences. Please take a look at this kamisori for sale. I am drawn to it but the rust on the toe bothers me.
Do you think that it can be removed and an edge put on it?

It appears to be surface rust but it's hard to tell for certain. Is there a photo of the other side?

As Utopian stated it appears to be surface rust. If it isn't deeply pitted honing should remove it. Something like Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish or something similar should remove the rest of the rust which appears to be rather light.
Although I have probably shaved with close to 100 str8 razors I've never tried that type. Guess I'll have to break down and give one a try, just wish they weren't so expensive!
I have 2 the moment with this making 3 possibly. I do like using them, they give a very precise feel. There are many on eBay at he moment that are around the same price as a western razor.
I will give it some thought and perhaps make a bid if the consensus stays of a similar view
