I just acquired a WR Case and Sons razor. On one side of the Tang is stamped “Tested XX Stainless” on the other side of the Tang is W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. and a very small stamp Solingen, Germany” Can anyone date this Razor? The closest thing I found was around 1920. Very nice bone scales

You will see old WR was always leaning toward a profit. Hence, he had German makers and others do blades for him at a time when 'Germany" was required to be put upon the razor.
Pre WWII, certainly, and I think 1920's 30's.
Would like to see pictures of this razor and possibly the razor box. Reason being that Parker, had razors made in Solingen with the case trademarks, and yours might be one of them. James Franklin Parker acquired the Case company and trademarks in 1989, he was the owner of the Parker Cutlery company.

I have two of Jim Sargent's editions of "Knives & Razors" & it covers a lot of info on Case, pages & pages. I have a couple with the Tested XX mark & you can see from a pic I added below the time around which it may have been made but ones made from 1905-1920 are more rare & were not ground but rather stropped only. I believe it says they also went from 1920-1955 & also several different makers were involved along the way but they were originally merged with Platts Brothers Company with H.N. Platts being the originator of the Case straight razor. There were also counterfeit ones made which were very easily identifiable. Some pics would be nice. There is so much information in my books about them plus on the website Tom included about The American Knife Co, it is too much to put on here but look it up, do the homework after all that's part of the fun!

Man, that's very nice. None of mine say stainless on them & I love those scales too! I don't know about the date though. it is either NOS or a newer production straight razor but it is a very nice piece. I will look in my books to see if I can narrow it down. It shows pages & pages of Case straight razors. I actually have a Crandall Cutlery blade I need to put some clothes on. It has etched on it, "I Must Kut". Thanks for the pics!!!!Quote:

That is an aforementioned Parker-era (1990's) Solingen-made razor. IIRC, Manah spoke about them being made by Dovo.Quote:

Not so bad if you have not spent too much, hasstar. I have had several and all shaved great.
You can realize it was the last razor produced with WR Case on it. Lots do overprice the things.
Not an evaluation, but a personal observation is I was with a friend as he bought one as a gift for his father.
A hardware here is one of the biggest Case dealers in the country. Like a museum of Case.
This was in the mid-90's and it was 125.00 or so at that time.

I also see from my book by Jim Sargent that the "I Must Kust" logo on the blade was also used by "Little Valley Knife Ass'n, Little Valley, NY" on a straight razor they made. I was surprised to see this book must be very informative on Case knives & razors along with Tom's (aka sharptonn) link & it all opened up a whole new world to me even more than it originally was & I've loved every bit of it. I love our American history & the more of this I find It fascinates me & when some of it comes together like this, it is even more historical & informative & the more history found, the better! I love it.......all of it plus more!!!!!!
I have my Shumates, one or two Austin, TX ones somewhere but I would love a nice one. I have a nice one & it was beautiful until I cleaned the blade off & discovered a crack in the blade & I communicated with the seller & sent him pics so he refunded my money & I got to keep it I found the crack in 5 or less minutes after I got it. I think I have the coffin to it too. I have a few Genco's & a couple Geneva which eventually became Genco. It would be nice to branch out a bit & also look into other companies or possible links to other makers.
This probably sums it up from the 1920-1940, a 15 year gap, then from 1955-1962 until the end of a very good maker.

I also have mint Cases Aces, a Genco Easy Aces & a Morris MFG. Red Imp which, according to, my Jim Sargent book says, is tied in with Case. I don't know if that was mentioned, if so, it's been pretty extensive.

Thanks Alex ! I've read the history of the Case family enterprises in the past, but never as complete as that PDF. I knew they had a problem with factories burning down, but not to the extent of one after another, and in different states. If I was an arson investigator I'd be looking at what insurance they may have had. OTOH, maybe that was a hazard of the business ?Quote:

Solingen, not Slogan. It might be the computers. I first typed Solingen correctly & it changed it to Slinger!!!!!!! I need to disable this crap! They screwed up whoever developed that crap in the system. Whoever it was needs to be taken out behind the woodshed...............
