Got my Gillette red tip in the mail today. I cleaned it up alittle, but might need to send it out to get restored. I gave it a try tonight and hot dang that thing is aggressive. It chewed me up like it was the first time I ever used a DE, but then again I was using Dorco blades, I'm trying to use them up before I go with my Astra's Attachment 216537Attachment 216538
For what they cost, if a blade isn't comfortable, I throw the pack out. JMO.
The blades work pretty good in my Aristocrat, but with a DE that's an aggressive shave, they chew me up. Honestly my cheap micro touch with the same blades don't chew me up this bad. Right now my neck feels like it has a mild sunburn.
My first DE experience was with a Gillette Superspeed paired with a dollar store Dorco. Upgrading to Personna and Astra blades was a big improvement in shave quality.
And it didn't get nearly as close as the Aristocrat Attachment 216545
That particular razor is very sensitive to blade angle to the face. It'l shave fine if you point the handle about 45 degrees from the area you are shaving. A razor with a large blade exposure is, in action, just like a straight razor.
GEM and the more aggressive razors like yours can really bite till the blade angle formed by the handle and cap is found for your face and skin. GEM's used to come with a tag that said:" Lay the cap flat to your face!"
Do not use an aggressive razor like a hoe!

Dooley noted, that's something I didn't know, might have to give it another try in a few days.
I went ahead and shaved again this morning. I did what you said and it was much better. Still couldn't go over the sensitive spots because of last nights butchering.
