Thread: What Celebrated Razor is this

Hey Guys,
Here's one for you. I just got my hands on this and I don't know the maker. Can you help me out? I cannot make out what is written above "Celebrated Razor" Maybe the maker's mark will look familiar to someone. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is that " _ crown _R" ?....A close-up pic would be good as the worn down letters should be identifiable.
Anything on the other side of the tang ?

OK I hope this new image uploaded. I went ahead and included another mystery razor in the picture. My best guess is the one at the top is an ERN with someone's personalization on the tang. The Eagle is what's leading me to that guess. Anyone have some info.

A 'V crown R' would be a sovereign mark indicating the razor was made during Queen Victoria's reign 1837 - 1901. Hard to see if that is what it is from the picture. If you can identify some of the worn lettering most likely someone will come up with a manufacturer.

It's difficult to say but it may be John Pitts. He had a similar stamp at one point. For comparison:

You might be on to something. Here's a sketch of what I could make out. I can believe that last part could be PITTS. I'm doing an estate sale for a lady and I'm trying to figure out what all is in her razor collection She has 6 of them. 4 of them are pretty easy to look up, but these two have been a challenge. I appreciate your help Guys.

It could be a doubled stamp. This happened sometimes when the first strike wasn't clear enough. That could explain why it looks elongated.

Edit: yes this is the case. I just noticed that the R's in the VR are doubled. The part on the bottom is the bottom of the John Pitts.

So do you guys think I'm safe calling the razor at the top in the picture an ERN?
