Ralf Aust.
Thanks edited post for phones auto correct
Aust. Wanting one myself.
Dovo's have long been the beginner's choice around here for a while, I had one but wasn't impressed. I've never owned a Ralf Aust so I can not comment but from what I have read they are excellent razors. Either way you go if you get it from SRD you can be assured it will be honed by a pro and shave ready. Also, Don and Lynn are great to deal with, are very helpful and stand behind their products and services.
I bought a Ralf Aust razor a few years ago when the only source that I knew for them was John Crowley's ShavingShop. Even though John can hone well, I wanted to do it myself and I was glad that I asked him not to hone it. It gave me a chance to see the factory edge, which looked very good even under the microscope. When I re-set the bevel, I was shocked at how PERFECTLY uniform the grind was. This resulted in perfectly even bevel widths along the entire lengths of both sides of the blade. To me, this was a great indication of the skill of the grinder, Mr. Aust.
The razor honed up easily and shaved very well. It still does.

I have both and both razors are from SRD. They are both fine razors but the Aust in my opinion is the nuts. You will be fine with either. If you do get the Aust I would give you guidance to shy away from the spanish point as a starter razor. It was my second razor after the dovo and I was not ready for the spanish point. (x2 superglue the face incidents) YMMV
Aust razors seem very nice. I have a Stainless 6/8 Spanish point.
I tend to like square, Spanish and French points, but I wouldn't touch a spike for all the tea in China. I can shave just fine with a round point razor too, I just prefer not having the tip obscured. Naturally, this has nothing to do with the question posed.
I do not own a Dovo of any kind... but from all that I have read over the years, I think I would select a Ralf Aust over a Dovo razor if I could only afford one.
Regards
Christian
Both are fine razors. I'd go with whichever one you think looks nicer.
I have both. I would highly recommend the Aust over the Dovo. Aust gives a far more comfortable shave
I also have both and for your first razor could not think of any I would recommend more than an Aust. My first was their 5/8 and it is just a great little razor that is very easy to refresh and constantly gives great shaves.
I started with a Dovo, and now have both. I prefer the Aust, but if you get one that is truly shave ready either will be great!
Thanks guys Aust it is then. I am gonna get the 3 inch strop. I already have a Simpson Berkeley and art of shaving ocean kelp set. I am looking forward till Christmas This will be a gift from my parents they really great. I am getting my dad a art of shaving kit he really likes mine so I am gonna hook him up

Even though the OP went for an Aust here is my humble opinion.
The Dovo fans are where...? I don't know but my vote is for Dovo Best Quality. Purely for the fact they are work horses, , nothing fancy but when I pick up my Dovo I know I'm in for a great shave.
I don't know squat about the grind quality, mine is awesome. The finish is nice, nothing fancy but it's a tool not a display case piece. I do know it hones up easily and cleans whiskers like a champion not to mention it holds an edge extremely well. A nice coticule edge on a Dovo 6/8 for me is tops.

Same here. I have a TI that is a Blades Grim & Grim Blades is one of the brands that it says on here (razors to avoid) not to buy but the TI is an excellent razor. I just didn't know it at the time that they have crappy razors except for the TI. The rest of them are junk & I guess they decided to get a good brand among their selection of junk razors. I put it in the SOTD once & although many people liked it, some didn't because of their name I guess but it was the first retail straight I bought when I first started & is a 7/8 but is a very smooth shaver!
