Since it seems as if most prefer their vintage razors, what are your top 3 favorite vintage razors?
I can only pick 3????? Joseph Rodgers, Frederick Reynolds, Wade & Butcher..... No wait, F. Fenney, Geo. Wostenholm, Greaves...... awww, wait. Boker, Heljestrand, Torrey.... Oh man, that's not it either. Joseph Elliot, Dubl Duck, ERN. No, no, no. I can't decide, sorry. :)
They're all my favorites!!
Don't know if I can say they are my favorites, just seems I use them more out of a fairly good sized rotation (30+) so here goes:
1) Frederick Reynolds 7/8 half hollow barbers notch.
2)Henckels 415 5/8 hollow ground.
3)S.R. Droescher Blacksmith 5/8 hollow ground.
Now that is subject to change depending on what I pull out of the project razors and blades on the " I'll get around to them" bench (150+).:beer2:
If I am going to choose 3 I'll go on basis of rarity since there are a lot more that I like because they shave awesome.
7/8 Gilchrist
6/8 Wostenholm I-XL
6/8 Taylor's Eye Witness
Henckels, That was the easy brand. Vying for second we have Frederick Reynolds, Joseph Elliott, DD, Droescher, Torrey, and for third we have a much longer list.
My top three, but there are lots of great razors out there!
Joseph Rodgers and Sons
Frederick Reynolds
Boker (specifically the Red Injun)
It wouldn't be fair for me to to pick only three out of the 30+ in my current collection/rotation so I'll pair them up:
1.) Filly #13, Joseph Rodgers & Sons
2.) Frederick Reynolds, John Williams
3.) Boker, J.A. Henckels
I could probably add another to each group but don't want to complicate things.
I like this thread........
Joseph Rodgers & Sons
D.C. Halsted - (Sheffield).
Wade & Butcher
Really difficult to keep it at three, but there it is, Have a growing interest in the old Solingen blades too. I appreciate all vintage razors !
Scott
W&B
John Barber
Joseph Rodgers & Sons
As long as it's sharp and heavy . Wade and Butcher Joseph Rodgers Fredrick Reynolds NO. 14 Henckels
My #1 razor, is my first razor, the one I used to learn the ropes of honing and shaving.... As for the other 30 odd razors I own, it depends on how they behave on a given day.
So, #1 is my Clauss Special 47 with all it's tarnish and wonky scales, however, the scales have finally been replace by Glen, and durn it all if he didn't clean up the blade too <mumble>. Now she's almost too purdy to shave with....<sigh>.
All the others, new, old, custom.... don't know.... Today might be my 5/8 Boker in cast steel, or the King Cutter, tomorrow a 13/16 Clauss or maybe the Fredrick Reynolds.... I have 3 of those.... They are ALL my favourites, depending on the day.
Regards
Christian
I don't have 3 , but #1 Kinfolks Blue Steel Special
#2 Thistle
-Michael Price Irish point
-Iwasaki
-Iberia 14
I just happen to have three. In order of preference:
-Pearl King, International Cutlery Co. ca 1930's: The best condition of the three and the first straight I shaved with in the 80's and promptly quite after hacking up my face.
After switching to the straight last year I've been maintaining this edge to some degree of 'shave-ready'. Its close.

-Leader, F.W. Engels ca 1935-45 ? : My best shaver. Lightly restored and honed by SRD. An amazing edge.

-No name Sheffield, Kayser Ellison Best Silver Steel. A smooth shaver but my least favorite of the three. My only 4/8; also lightly restored by SRD.

I'm about ready to treat myself to a fourth vintage, then I'll be done.....
A Sheffield, a Soligen & a Spaniard
These are my top 3
Any deeper in detail is pushing it LoL
It's tough to only pick 3 but after a fair bit of thought I'd think mine would be Le Grelot, Filarmonica and Joseph Mappin.
