Steel used for Maher Grosh "Wiry Beard" razor

I received a nice Maher Grosh, Toledo, Ohio razor with the "SPECIALLY GROUND AND SET FOR WIRY BEARDS" engraved on the blade as a gift. I've searched for info about this razor, and found examples for sale, but not much specific info. I'm curious about the steel used in this razor. All my other razors (about 12, all carbon steel) are highly polished and very "light" in color (not sure how else to describe them). This steel is darker and duller, and when I strop it, it has a much different sound to it; the other razors almost sing whereas this one sounds duller. I've honed it and it shaves just fine; I'm just curious if anyone can shed light on the steel used.

I have one, older, I think. Simply a heavier grind marketed toward those with heavier, or 'Wiry' beards.

Probably just a marketing gimmick like all the others they used in the old days. I'm sure the steel is the same.

Have a few Ohio razors, all have been excellent shavers, so you should enjoy that one very much.

What part of the NE are you in, I'm in the akron area. There seems to be a few here in the state, but never hear about any meets and would like to put one together some day. The group was put together by Tin Tin, called the Ohio wet Shavers earlier this year, but have heard nothing since.

I live in Painesville, and other than my son who uses a Merkur safety razor (he's the gifter mentioned above), and one guy at work, I don;t know any other wet shavers. If this Ohio group comes together, let me know.

The darker colour is simply patina . Notice the bevels are shiny.

As stated the color is just the patina on the blade.
I had one a few years back, best I can remember the difference was exactly as stated on the razor - "ground".
It's just a little heavier grind (less hollow). Chances are that is also why it sounds different when you strop it.

Yes, patina makes sense, especially considering the bevel is "bright". Thanks for the replies; I knew the experts here would provide an answer.
