Brand new to honing, do you hone a near wedge any different than a standard hollow ground? Debating If I want to try it myself or save it for when I am more experienced.

If you google Dovo history you'll find an article on the Dovo website that will give the details of D&V. They sold the company to Fritz Bracht right before WWII. The name Dovo was derived from shortening Dorp-Voos.
They are good razors IME. I would wait for honing that until you've got more experience. Not only are wedges of that more modern type more difficult to get an edge on, but 4/8 blades are more difficult than larger blades IME. Maybe not for everybody, but I've never honed one that wasn't a job. :gl:
Stropping a 4/8 can turn a strong man into a jelly filled donut.
