Comments on a couple of RazorsHi

Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone has a few comments on two old beater razors I got dirt cheap of the Bay.
All comments welcome. I was thinking of maybe using them as project razors.
The first is a J.A, Hehckels. From what I have read here in the wiki, it is a circa 1969 from the logo






On the blade of the second one it says, Magnetic, Diamond Steel, Full hollow ground and on the left side of the tang it says Special
I am thinking someone at one point ground the point round because I think it should be a square/pike.
Anyway, all comments welcome.

The Henckels doesn't look so beat up. Unless you think the etch is ruined.
The Magnetic etch is deep but close to the hone wear. And putting back the french or spanish point ( which ever it was) would be fairly easy with the proper care.
What are you looking to do ?

The Henckels looks to be in fair condition. That rust on the bevel is a little bit disturbing. Hopefully it is just surface rust that steel wool can remove.

The Special one has a lot of hone wear, as in "is there a spine left on it?". It was probably once a French point that either broke or was honed round.

Thanks guys for the comments. I'm planning on checking the scales and the blades when it/they get here and if they look worth the effort, I will re-store each of them. I was thinking about perhaps putting the point back after doing a bit more research to see if I can determine what the point was. Part of the fascination I have with my straight razors is the history that is wrapped up in each one and seeing if they can be restored and shave with them.
Once I receive them I will post better pics.

Personally I would leave the point alone on the second one. Chances are it was a French point with some damage removed from the toe. If you want to put a French point back on it you'll have to remove a good amount of steel and the etching will no longer be centered.

I was also got to say that it looked like the toe had been broke or chipped so they made it a round point. You can leave it or make it a Spanish point, square point or square point w/barbers notch. You could even take more off from the top of the spine & down at an angle like a French point.

engine46, I think you are correct. If I did modify it, I would go with the Spanish point. The right scale has an 1/8" chip out of it right at the pivot so I think I am going to re-scale it. I might try some black super glue first and then work it down, and if it disappears I'll polish them up and see.

That might work shikano53 if the collars cover up the CA. I have put together a piece of bakelite scale that broke & I got them just right after putting some CA on them to hold them back together. I sanded it down & polished it & you couldn't even tell it was ever broken. I even tried putting pressure on it also to see if it would break again but it didn't.
Your other option if that doesn't work is to rescale it.

Concerning the 'Magnetic Diamond Steel' razor, I would guess it's a Daniel Peres out of Solingen, as I have one with a very similar etch and blade geometry:
