So I bought this razor recently because I couldn't see the pits in the pictures, and this is the first time I have purchased a razor with pits (pretty good luck over 7 years). It was not a good shave when I bought it, and my honer of choice said that it required two layers of tape to keep an edge. However, it still had some painful spot during the shave. If I keep trying to get a good edge I will surely run into a minefield of pits soon. What should I do with it?

Depends on how deep those pits go! As long as they aren't on the actual edge I don't see a problem. But I'm sure other will digress.
Can you post a shot of the whole blade ? Might give a better perspective in comparison with the closeup. In general the issue is if pits are in the bevel are they too deep to hone past them to good steel. Otherwise it begins to look like Swiss cheese.

I have a couple of vintage blades with a little bit of pitting like that. It doesn't look too deep and you have a bit of metal left to wear away until you get to where it may become a bit of an issue. Without seeing the rest of it I would say you are ok for a good while.

If you try to hone it out where your edge has no chips, that'd be good to go
but even if there are a little but of pitting on the edge I'd try to shave with it anyway, it might be good, or might not be; only one way to find out
Majority of my blades with pitting, the pitting never gotten to the tiny tiny part of the shaving edge and were able to honed out

Yes, it is fine as long as the pits do not reach the edge, but the edge in the 2nd photo looks to be un-set and ragged. Also looks like a double bevel which can be a good thing, as a steeper angle can make a stronger bevel on week steel.
If the razor was a Cell Rot victim, you may have some bad steel that just will not hold an edge. Sometimes going a little deeper and removing a bit more to get to good solid steel will work.

Just me but your blade looks pretty good. I have a razor that looks worse than that and I get great shaves out of it. I would not be overly worried about using that razor. Just my opinion of course.

I'm trying to like it, I really am. But the shave was not good when I bought it, and wasn't good after I sent it to a honemeister. I am trying to hone it from scratch right now, and if that fails I will send it to another honemeister...Quote:

Surprisingly, that razor doesn't shave all that badly if you remember where the hole in the edge is. :rofl2:
Looks like you are okay.............just stay up on drying it off after each use real well and putting a good oil to it. I use Ballistol myself.

So I went hazy,(inversion) with a jnat to see how invasive the pits.
Yes its twisted slighty the blade that is. A heel forward x-stroke likes that blade.
Basing that on the water on hone. Watching the wave. It is midpoint but slight.

At the end, hazy shows no pits It just needed a simple fix. Jointing and hone. Oh it doesnt like 20K gets microchippy. So it was rejointed and 8K then jnat. I have to shave with this blade. It will be coming home on Monday.
