Trust me I know the difference. I will say that this razor with the broken scales will not be honed till it has new scales. For now it will be broken glass sharp later it will be shave your face sharp.

Why spend $7.00 to support the Chinese government when I have paid as little as $4.00 for a great vintage American made razor.
Hi No doubt the scales are crap.
If the blade takes a proper edge and you get good shaves then a good set of scales is in order.
My scales cracked soon after I got mine. I plan to replace the scales soon.
There are You tube vids showing the edge magnified with different stones.
The strop is important to finish the edge before a shave. Many opinions on stropping.
Old thread, I know, but I bought a couple of these to practice making my own scales with, and I was surprised that both of them came shave ready. One of them has a wider bevel on one side vs the other, but it was popping hairs off my arm right out of the box. After stropping, it was passing HHT as well as my Wade & Butcher. I'm not saying these are great quality razors, but I am saying I was surprised what I got for the price of a gold dollar. YMMV.
Hi
Mine is shaving pretty good considering the cost. :<)
I may put new scales on it sometime.
