I'm not sure if it is applicable to all stainless, but I think it is for that used in cutlery, and in some industrial applications. Stainless is more abrasion resistant, hence it is a bit more difficult to hone to a shave ready edge. IME once it is 'there' it is just fine.

I think they have been making straight razors with stainless steel blades from around the 1920s onward. They should have it pretty well down pat by now.

I couldn't help myself and ordered the non stainless steel version of the hollow back razor.
I must say, these Ralf Aust's razors showcase a true beauty of a razor of great quality.
A second order will be placed somewhere in the future, because you just gotta have a pair and eventually maybe a seven day set.
I love these shoulderless razors, worked spine and horn scales. A true craftsman!
