RAD has taken new direction

It used to be that I would buy any good looking razor at least 5/8ths, didn't matter the name. Now I'm getting rid of a bunch (around 10 to 12 of them). Now its either a nice 5/8ths with a barbers notch or a good clean 6/8th square or "spike point" ( If it also has a barbers notch so much the better). I cut myself real good yesterday with a newly sharpened J. Wiss & Sons 6/8ths square point . Dang do they handle a lot different than a light weight 5/8ths Hollow ground, I'll have to be more carefull. I'm also going for a certain name brand because I find them easy to sharpen and maintain. Anybody else have this happen?

I've gone through phases when I preferred one style razor over another for whatever reason. I even got rid of some that I was sure I wouldn't miss. Then it came full circle and I found myself in the mood for a few that were gone. That's how it goes, I guess. Yeah I have several (lots of?) square point razors and one of my all time favorites for daily shaving (a Paul Kohl Fisher Works #58) used to try to cut a little sometimes right by my ears. I just ever, ever so slightly dulled just the very tip and it's been much more user friendly since then.

My razor tastes come and go. For a while I have preferred this one over that one, and then thought more of that one than this one. I think if you have a well balanced collection it need not be large. Keep one of these and one of those and the other one too and all will be well.

I like you would buy any razor I thought was good looking and the right price. I then sold most of them and started buying only Sheffield razors. From there I focused on certain time periods. My favorite was buying stub tails. Something about them really gets me. Of course through all the razor buying you must have hones. While we are at it you must clean them up, buffers, drill press and all the other goodies to go along with them. Now I buy what I consider must have razors for my own collection or razors strictly for selling. The later covers just about any razor for sale at the right price lol. Out of my 90 or so razors I would say I will sell about 40 of them. Then weed out the others as I acquire the same razors in better condition. My goal is to wind up with a nice collection of razors that I would never part with. I get a lot of enjoyment from this hobby. As most things in life who knows where we go from here. I am enjoying the ride.

I like different shaves, depending on my mood............Variety is the spice of life!

I would really like to expand my collection. I prefer to buy razors in person, as opposed to eBay. I've scoured each and every antique shop in my area, and straight razors just aren't that common. The ones that are for sale are so overpriced, it's absurd. I even have a craigslist alert app set for SR's, but nothing ever comes up.

Spike points are my favorite without a doubt, 7/8 and above, unless of course it's a nice Swedish or French frame backed razor....then 4/8 to 7/8 is the range I prefer.

For me my all time favorite are Spanish point. Next in line is frameback. Most of mine are sheffield but I do have a small range of others. 4/8 to 10/8s it's all good.
