I have a Brookes & Crookes razor that has what I think might be ivory scales. I'm not familiar enough with ivory to be sure, but maybe some of you might be?
There is a visible grain, and they are very smooth to the touch, and are much thinner than the scales on my other razors.

From the pics they look like Ivory to me
My vintage boker edelweiss has very similar scales in color and grain. Wish I had an answer for you but I'll let more knowledgeable folks chime in. You got my curiosity now.

Ivory.....
The thinness, colarless pinning, sheen and grain pattern all together scream ivory.
Is the wedge end lead. If so everything looks like Ivory. Now I'm not an expert but I would think they are.Quote:

Ivory for sure. What they said above says it all short of the physical tests that could be done.
Not sure what you mean by the wedge being end lead - here is a pic of the wedge.

I reallly can't tell by the photo if it's lead or not. The older razors with ivory scales almost always had lead wedges or at least all mine do.
It's ivory.

Sweet! I originally thought it was, then started to doubt myself. Too bad the blade has some pitting. Still a very nice blade though.
I'm wrinkled like a damned prune. The skin on my face looks like a piece of goatskin leather on a high end Bible. My hair is grey/white. Goes with the age. A buddy of mine started using the anti grey stuff till his hair was dark brown. He got a face lift and his face looked like the skin on a drum. Started chasing young gals and caught one. She took him for every dime he had and ditched him. Now he is in a home suffering from dementia .......... and looks like he is 40 even though he is 75. All of that to say ...... the pitting adds character. :)Quote:

Looks like ivory to me but if you need the conformation you can try a hot pin and seen if it melts. Ivory will laugh at your attempt. Bone would burn. French ivory would melt.

Notice how thin your scales are, you will never see plastic, horn or wood scales that thin.
Which is why you find Ivory on the better razors, where a little more time was spent putting them together. A lot may have been the weight and balance issue, as well as aesthetics. They really did put a lot more thought into making things then, than we give them credit for. Time was not the issue it is today. Which is why on quality razors, it is hard to improve on a scale design over the originals. They were/are functional and pleasing to the eye.

Well, since you brought it up .......... connectors (what those guys are) didn't tie off back in those days, because they had to have freedom of movement. The fellow in the green shirt, Neil Monahan, was one of the three best connectors I ever saw in 20+ years of ironworking. I saw him fall 85 feet to his death on that job on Sept 20 1972.Quote:
