Help me buy my first antique?

Im looking for my first straight razor and want it to be an antique. I also like the rounded tip because I suppose its less likely I will cut myself and also looking for extra hollow ground as I learned that makes for a better edge.

If Im in California, do you think it will be expensive to get it honed?

Im currently looking at the below and wonder if you have any tips on how I can get a good used antique for less than $50

- Imperial Razor Registered 20507 which I can purchase for $27 Just a plain black handle but extra holow ground and looks excellent condition

- A vintage OJ Razor Vintage OJ Geneva Cutlery Extra Hollow Ground Round Point Straight Razor 5 8 | eBay

- A Regeldso that says 54 on the tang. But I have no idea what year it is.

- Im bidding on a Gotta right now that is already at 28.00 and has 3 days to go , so will probably get expensive

I am checking for rust and pitting and making sure they have a good edge. Any advice you have for the new guy?

Hi there are quite a few listings in the classifieds section under members services, for honing a razor, not sure what the cost is as, I do my own and I live in UK so I only have an idea what the £££££ rate is.

I just looked on the classifieds for razors and there does not seem much in that price range (quite often there are few there) and they will be shave ready if stated so.
That said I hope to have time to list a few razors in and around that price point this weekend.

There are a couple sellers from japan, which offer some nice condition antique razors. If you are in Cali, there are many members in that state. The razor in the link you provided seems to be in decent condition, although there appears to be rust on the edge that can be an issue. If you are looking for cheap, search vintage razor and buy it now, then check the names of the makers to pictures of razors here. However, the better the condition, the higher the price. Try getting a W. H. Morley razor, good blade and fairly inexpensive.

Geneva, Ontario, Genco, Sheffield razors and vintage Puma's. Can pick them up very reasonably. They are easy to hone, hold a great edge and shave smooth as silk.

Keep an eye on the classifieds there is often nice razors at very reasonable prices, and they are usually shave ready.
