I found a razor today at an antiques store. It's made by Heinisch & Co., Newark, N.J. I've never come across this maker before but was able to find a little info searching around SRP. They had it marked for $12 but you know how it goes - really it was $10. If anybody has one or knows something about it, please share.

Thanks, that's great info! So it seems the razor was made mid 1800's. Heinisch was primarily a manufacturer of high quality shears and this is what he was most proud of. So, the shears stamped on the other side of the tang make sense. Very cool!

It was likely made after his death in 1874, as I think the '& Co' came after his death and his sons were running it.

OK, yeah I think you are right about the date because of the "& co." It seems the name changed when his sons were made part of the business. So that should place it between 1874 and 1914 when Wiss purchased the company, you think? That razor you have there is incredible! The link above talked about how proud the man was of his shears and it really shows in the design of that razor. It looks like half a scissors crossed with a frameback straight razor. Fantastic!

Nice pick up. Should be a great shaver. The stamping is in good shape and some history to go along with it.
Very interesting razor to say the least, with that said there is more to the history of this razor and its striking Sheffield look. A dead ringer as some would say, but not by luck, just happens that Heinisch hired no other then Joe Turner (Turner & Cowlishaw, then President of J. R. Torrey.)to come to America in 1870 to be the foreman of their new razor division.
Turner stay at Heinisch only lasted 2 years before he founded Turner & Cowlishaw in Meriden Connecticut.

Anything Joseph Turner had a hand in is great! Perhaps the enterprising Turner was too demanding upon the Heinish sons as they took over?
Indeed most Heinish razors I have seen are more modern-looking, such as the one in the bottom of the pic I posted above;

It's likely, I think. The scissor logo is one I have not seen. Indeed, Turner made razors stamped for many others from his days in Connecticut, including early Torreys before he actually joined Torrey.
He may have been responsible for Heinisch and/or Wiss razors for a while, even after he left Heinisch.
