I believe if the razor and scales are vintage you should be OK. Wait and someone will come along with the knowledge to answer correctly.
I really don't know for sure but I believe if it is pre-ban and you can get a sales slip or other documentation It would be legal. But if it were me and i was unsure and still wanted it i would buy it and ship it home maybe.

I've already send two razors and ivory snooker ball to the USA.
As seller, I've had to fill a form telling what kind of item I was sending.
Writting "vintage razor" or same kind of mention, as a "gift" of "+-20$ value", I think that the probabilty of it being seized is very low.
But like every far sending, the risk of it being lost / damaged / seized is never 0% :shrug:
Yes, I am sure people just ship it declared as a vintage razor. Chances are it will never be inspected and if it is it may not be recognized as ivory anyway. To do it legally may be another matter entirely.Quote:

it's a matter of chance. if it's inspected by Customs they know and will seize it. The chances are they won't but if you lose you lose. Sales receipts are worthless.
thank you all for the good information concerning ivory.it is something to give thought to before ordering ivory objects. the only ivory i ever purchased was on a colt new service nickel plated revolver made in 1922.but i have wondered at some of the razors sold thru auction and some could be ivory or bone. and i can see where buyer or seller may not know for sure.thanks to everyone for the discussion.john

Yes, there hardly ever is a problem. OTH "if" the package is opened and inspected I'd bet it would be confiscated at the very least without the proper export and import papers. That is the difference between it being done all the time and whether or not it is legal.Quote:
