Why do wedges and near wedges fetch such a high price usually? Im still new to SR but I really want to add one to the quickly building collection and I can't find a decent one for under $200-$300 Canadian

I think the high priced ones are the larger sizes from the likes of W&B because they seem to have a cult following. You should be able to find a Sheffie near wedge in a smaller size for much less because they are not a razor du jour.

Ya if you look around the 5/8 in decent shape wedges are really inexpensive, if your wanting a 8/8 your going to pay because of the following. There's some wedges in American steel too, your just looking at the wrong ones, keep an eye in the classifieds so you don't wind up with some of the crap that Eboy sells or at least pay attention to the pictures. Tc
I'd have to add that modern wedges seem, to me anyway, to be more of a heavier hollow ground than the old Sheffie wedges. The old Sheffies seem wedgier if that makes any sense. Keep in mind that a true wedge, sides perfectly flat, is a very rare thing. Anyway, hope you find one to your liking at a decent price.

Wish they had a try it before you buy it for razors! I laid down a lot of cash for some wedges a few years ago, found out pretty quickly that they weren't for me, and was lucky to get part of my money back.
I migrated to 1/4 hollows and have been loving them.
There are some nice Swedish near-wedges that shave very well too.
Check out Koraat and his basic model. Geometry is perfect and a snap to hone. I never use my vintage wedges after getting one by Ulrich
Just sold a 5/8 Sheffield wedge pretty cheap, keep looking, they're out there.
