New Thiers - Issard
Won my first French Razor. A Thiers-Issard with a jimped thumb notch. I have read that Thiers uses a hard steel that typically stays sharp for a long time. Seems like I have seen some with Solingen blades and some with (possibly??) Sheffield blades but I honestly have not studied these much.
Looking forward to adding another country's razor to my shaving resume. Am I going to be impressed with Thiers?

Is this a new or vintage TI? The blades are all French as they're made in thiers, France. They are made with Sheffield or Swedish steels though, and markeked as such. Post some pics!

The new TI's are great shavers. They may come with some wonky bevels but shave like a dream. It seems in the past few months they come better honed then in years past

I have a TI, it is a modern rather than vintage razor. It came to me new, but honed to be shave ready as opposed to the factory edge so I cannot speak for how shave ready they may or may not be from the factory.
I have been very impressed with it. I think in the past they have suffered from some quality control issues, but I have had no issues with mine at all. It shaves very well and keeps its edge too. Mine only has the basic plastic scales, but I think that they are all made from the same steel (Damascus steel excluded obviously) regardless of what material the scales are.
I love mine and it makes it into my rotation very regularly. I have a Dovo which is of a similar price range, but the TI beats it hands down. IMHO.

Thanks. It's a modern one. Just didn't see any markings in the listing that would identify a particular model. I will be re-setting the bevel and bringing it up to my idea of shave-ready :)

I've heard that sometimes the grinds may be off, quality control is sometimes lax, but I've got a dozen of them and they are probably my favorite brand next to vintage Heljestrands.

It looks very similar to mine, except mine has black scales. Mine was called the basic black. I think the basic refers to the fact that the scales are just plastic. I think that it is an 11/16" blade half hollow. I am sure that you will enjoy it.

Thiers are made from carbonsong c135, more knowledgeable people than me can what that means.
What I can tell you is that they are great shavers. Like others had said QC can be poor, I've had a few that all had wonky bevels.
Yours looks like the le grelot form which is the same blade if you get the basic or their most fancy.
The good thing with Thiers is that you can get replacement scales if you want to jazz them up.

I have 3 modern production TIs. Each is a great shaver if honed well. I hone my own and am well satisfied. See pic.
