Default Straight Razors manufactured in Haiti

Anyone know of any manufacturers that produced Straight Razors in Haiti?

My wife's family is from Haiti and it would be kind of cool to own one manufactured there.

Perhaps they were traditionally just imported from France.

Interesting question, not sure it has been asked before. I will wait for an answer to this one also.

Nothing would surprise me in the straight razor world, but more likely to have been imported from France and then USA given the history.

If you have family still there, why not ask them to have a look for you.

That's something I hadn't considered. I'll ask them next time I speak with them. Prior to the economic downturn in that nation I don't know what kind of manufacturing occurred in Haiti.

Haiti has always been a very poor country. Mostly agricultural products and the very few manufactured items but no razors.

That is true; the island itself is known to be rich on gold, copper, and silver and it has plenty of economic potential. The government's have never really been able to pull together though.

Is there evidence that you are aware of that indicates that no razors were manufactured there?

No evidence but I'd almost bet that's the case.

From the results of a brief google search it appears unlikey that there was ever a company manufacturing razors in Haiti.

MAJOR INDUSTRIES: Agriculture, Assembly of Imported Parts, Cement, Food Processing, Forestry, Mining, Textiles, Tourism. MAIN EXPORTS: Bauxite, Cocoa, Coffee, Essential Oils, Light Industrial Manufacturing, Mangoes, Sisal, Sugar.

I suppose 'light industrial manufacturing' could include razors, but historically I don't think steel products were their forte. Previous regimes probably didn't put much investment into the infrastructure and entrepreneurs weren't likely to invest in such a poor country. IMHO.

You might do saved Ebay searches for straight razors by particularly older and more populous cities. Finding an old English or German razor from a local dealer would seem the best way to go?

I also looked on Google and online to no avail. I assume that there werent any razors manufactured in country.
