I'd like your opinion on which razor to buy

I'd like to purchase a rather high end razor. I don't have a lot of $$ - and I'd like to keep it below $300.00. I have picked three razors, and I would love your opinion:

This is an 8/8 Henckels Friodur, Spanish Point, Scalloped Back, Black-Cherry Polypearl scales. $184.99

What is your vote? - and why?

Out of those three the one that comes closest to tripping my trigger is the 6/8" (second picture). I don't care for the look of roundpoints and I personally think 8/8" is too big.

You also might consider contacting our resident straight makers and seeing if they have anything close to you price range. You just may be pleasantly surprised!

I vote for the Red Head. The 'Regrind' is okay, but I am partial to those Horn Scales!
The Friodur looks too 'Clunky' for my tastes.

BUT this is only my two cents worth. (And worth every penny you paid for it.:w )

I like the scales on the Livi, but I'd probably go for the Red Head too. 6/8 is a good size, comfortable and the Spanish point is a nice feature too, more than just aesthetic. The steel is a bit softer and easier to hone and a bit more comfortable than those SS blades as well

Ask Robert about a custom though. Who else does custom work here?

Of those three, I'd personally go for the Friodur. I've got an 8/8 - shaves like a dream and has stayed shave sharp for ages. My best razor, for sure. Sure, that size can be unwieldy at the beginning, but it doesn't take long to get used to handling it.

But the others look nice too. I'd say you're spoilt for choice. Man, I'd hate to be in your position! ;)

The Friodur. But I really like a big blade so I might be a tad biased. LOL

Of those 3, I'd go for the Friodur first, followed by the Maestro Livi re-grind second. Both are outstanding shavers, and easy to hone. :)

The 6/8 first, and then the 8/8. i really like spanish points.
I would not buy a livi regrind. I can slap a ferrari logo on my citroen, but that won't make it one.

They can be really good shavers perhaps, but ask yourself: would you pay 279 dollar for a wapienica if it had wooden scales and a Livi mark?
That is almost enough to ask Robert williams for a custom forged with wooden scales.

Hmmmmm, income opportunity? Livi-scaled Waps?
