Historian Question - Wade & Butcher Ottoman Rarity

Unlike many of Wade & Butcher’s other razors, their “Ottoman Egyptian and Royal Windsor” razor is quite the unicorn.

I’d love to learn why this particular model is so rare in comparison to the company’s many other razors.

I will try and head off someone flaming me with, “it’s rare coz they didn’t make a lot”…yep, get that! :roflmao

Was it a limited production model or was some other factor or factors at play when it was produced that limited its production or….? :shrug:

I've surfed both the forum and web for additional info. but really didn't find much in regard to what made it so rare; since it is a great model (personal opinion :)), I'm curious as to why this particular model didn’t have higher production numbers and etc.

Leatherstockiings, thanks for the reference link--voidmonster's take was interesting. My thoughts were going more toward a specially produced blade that was in connection with the British conflict in Egypt and Sudan (1882 - 1889). Very speculative at best....

I found one, think it's the one in the SRP Library.

The previous owner was trying to further restore it, he was trying to straighten the spine, and he snapped it at the tang.....:banghead::mad:

It was "silver soldered" back together, outstanding job, and I purchased it off him.

There are two that I know of, this one, and another owned by a member at another shaving forum, never seen another.

Beautiful razor without a doubt....:)
