Wonderedge Question

I was at a local antique shop recently and saw a Dubl Duck Wonderedge for sale :y . The scale had a bit of a crack near the wedge pin and it looked like it could've used a cleaning but otherwise looked to be in decent condition. Until The sales clerk opened the display case and I had a look at the blade :cry: . It had excessive hone wear: The blade measured about 5/8 at the heel and tapered to 4/8 at the toe :cry: . From the look of the spine I figure a previous owner was from the use the disc grinder school of honing :rant: . So, would it have been worth buying anyway? The blade is a write off IMO but, even with the crack, I was thinking the scales might have been salvageable. The vendor was asking fifty five dollars and, although tempted, I took a pass. Anyway, if anyone here is in the market for Wonderedge scales then PM me with an amount you'd be willing to pay and I'll go make an offer and see if the vendor goes for it. Worth a try, anyway.

55$ is way too much.
If you factor in that you have to add 10$ for shipping it to someone who wants them, you arrive at 65$ for cracked scales.

As for rescuing the blade: you could turn it into a 4/8 but that would only be worth it if you would actually shave with it.
it's resale value would not be that of a mint DD so it's not like you would turn a big profit. especially since the scales were cracked.

Yea the scales are really nothing special anyway. Any of the DD cracked ice scales are the same except for the gold writing which could be removed and then you would have generic DD scales which would fit any of them of equal size. Also they are cracked so its really not worth anything. Its all in the blade and that one ain't worth it.

I wouldn't pay fifty five just for the scales either. My thinking was that if somebody here was looking to do a restoration job on a Wonderedge and needed a scale(s) or the decorative metal end pieces, etc. then I could go back to the shop and make an offer. All was not lost, though. The shop next door had a good condition Genco Henry's XX 6/8 RP with only some staining on one side of the blade. The scales were in very good condition and, with tax, came out to no more than about thirty five. Also, I found another M1917 Remington manufactured bayonet (WW1 era) for the M1903/M1917/M1 rifles. So I'm not too , too heartbroken.:)
