    Default Wacker or Revisor

    Hey everyone,

I usually am a vintage razor guy, however, I am interested in purchasing a new production razor. The two manufacturers that have caught my eye are Wacker and Revisor. Does anyone have any experience with both razors and can provide some advice or feedback to compare the two?

Also, are there any other brands I should look at that produce quality new razors?

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

I would be confident buying another Aust. I haven't tried Revisor or Wacker.

all three are said to be good. But don't count out Portland Razor Company or Brian Brown Razor Works.

Personally, I would try a Revisor. The Wacker I owned was very prone to chipping at higher grits, so I really had to finesse the edge. Don't get me wrong, it was a great razor. I gave it to my dad and it is his favorite razor. I just wouldn't buy another one.

I got myself the Wacker Allround. Nice stable and balanced razor. Steel is not that hard compared to vintage razors.
    Easy to hone though.

My only negative point is that the razor was not sharp and smooth enough. I bought it from a retailer. Perhaps buying directly from Wacker gives a better edge.

I hear good stories from R Aust as well. Much more choices and definedly sharp.

But the 7 day sets from Wacker OMG

I have seen another member say that his Wacker gave him problems when honing. He also said it stained pretty easily while honing. Definitely something to consider. Thanks!

    Well, here is a counterpoint…

I have had a Wacker for a couple of years, shave with it regularly, and it is awesome.

I have a few Brian Brown, Ralf Aust, and Wacker...no Revisors

Really hard to go wrong with any of them. The craftsmanship, balance, and grind (especially on Brian's blades)....excellent. I've had no problem with staning or chipping on my Wackers (honing is done with a coticule and Zulu Grey).
From a price perspective, the Wackers can be a bit spendy. Also Wacker blades can be rough out of the box. Brown and Aust blades are truly shave ready from the get-go.

Any would be a good choice...

I have bought two Austs, a Wacker, and a Revisor. None of them arrived sharp, nor did I expect any of them to be.

The Austs were amazingly well ground and took very little to hone them. The same was true for the Wacker. None of them needed a bevel set, just a bit of tweaking from 5k and up on the hones. The Revisor's edge was a mess and was far from any claim of shave ready. I made a video of that edge but won't bother to post it again. This is not a criticism of Revisor. Others have said that their Revisor arrived with a proper edge. All of these razors, regardless of the brand, are handled individually and so their edges will vary.

Anyone who buys any of these brands should end up happy with their razor as long as they have realistic expectations about the initial condition of their razor's edge.
