Falstaff razor
Does anyone have any info on the Falstaff razor? I have looked everywhere I think. All
the ones I've seen seemed to be made for Gunkel Barbers Supply and they are made in Germany. Really a nice blade for not knowing anything about it. Just wondered if anyone here had any insight. They have a blued blade and the metal seems really nice and it is a decent shaver but that's all I know. Any help?

Here is a Genco "Old Dutch" on fleabay. Is this the same razor? Could Falstaff be a marketing version of the Old Dutch? Thoughts? Attachment 266941

I suppose it can't be the same because the Falstaff is stamped made in Germany and the Genco is U.S. But they sure are similar aren't they.

Ok, so I'm the only one posting on this thread but I wanted to vet the info I keep finding with you all. It seems that some of the early Gencos were made in germany before manufacturing started in Geneva. Is it possible that this is an early model that predates NY manufacture? They are awe fully similar. Here is the tang stamp from the fleabay one. Attachment 266944

It gets exceptionally difficult to track down who made razors for resellers. More often than not there is no trade marks from the manufacture. There are many well known importers that always had top quality razors, but we don't often know who made them. There is the whole Duble Duk, and Beau Brummel lines as well as Hess and C-Mon and SRD and Shapliegh, the list can go on and on. Most resellers bought top quality. I have a few and all of them are great. Although it may never be known who made the razors, we just know they were well made.

Like RezDog says, with these types of importer razors it is usually very hard to impossible to determine who made them. Even if you know the maker determining a production date is also virtually impossible and it is down to best guessing. Records of production for German razor are for the most part gone thanks to WWII. Straight razors were made by the thousands and none were serial numbered either to the best of my knowledge. You are likely never to get definitive answers to questions on this razor.
