Rice we've got in Hawaii. With our Asian population, whole aisles of supermarkets are devoted to rice. I mean whole aisles, both sides. I've probably got a few lbs in the cupboard somewhere. Never thought of tossing in my straight razors with the rice, but it's not a bad idea.
Where do you get those cases?
You might try looking at the silicone impregnated cordura razor rolls at The Superior Shave. My razors live in the bathroom in their little razor burkas. Never have any rust issues. Early on I got a few stains but some polish took care of those easily enough.
I live in Florida and the razor pouches I purchased from SRD work great. No rust and I don't oil them, no need. It's an inexpensive way to store them.
Come on guys! Move to Arizona and you can keep your straights anywhere you want, outside would be a bad idea because they would get very hot! I will also vote for Tuf-Glide, it works very well at preventing rust/corrosion. Comes as a cloth, just wipe the blade with the cloth when dry and put your straight away. I live in Arizona and I use Tuf-Glide as well.
I keep my razors and strops openly displayed in the bathroom and have never had an issue, it's a pretty large bathroom though.
I keep my current rotation in the bathroom. Used Tuf-Glide for years with no rust problems
