Are there any *new* 8/8 full hollows out there - besides Koraat or Revisor?

Of newly mass-produced (and hence "reasonably-priced" - not custom made) ones I've found only those two. Both are beautiful and although not cheap, priced fairly enough (for my wallet, that is), but I wondered whether there are some more alternatives out there? NOS #14 Friodurs and Filarmonicas are a bit too expensive for me, some older and beautifully restored Sheffields I've seen on this and other forums (kudos to the masters who did the restoration!) are usually priced even higher. Of course, I guess, commissioning a new blade would be the most expensive option - and rightly so.
I hope that some day in the future I'll be able to restore one myself, but for now - are there any viable options I missed?

Of the new production razors, Revisor make 8/8 models. I am not sure if Wacker makes razors still but he has had 8/8 models in the past.

I have a Wacker 8/8, purchased new. Can't say when Herr Wacker made it, but I bought it from John Crowley at The Shaving Shop. It was in the lower $500 range.

John also had some 8/8 Dorko Backal NOS reasonably priced in the $200 range.

Portland Razor Company would likely be pleased to discuss a custom 8/8 full hollow with you. Good people, and their product is first rate. Call them and speak with Scott or Hunter if you have an interest. I am a customer, not an employee, just for the record.

Robert Williams can set you up with an 8/8 full hollow.
Fairly certain Brian Brown can also.

Does it have to be 8/8th?

I only ask because Theirs Issard make some 7/8ths which are still quite large and may be more conducive to a lower budget.

All of the ones already mentioned seem to get good reviews but I don't own any of them myself. I do have a 7/8ths Koraat and it is quite a substantial razor.

If you are just after something with a little more heft to it, you could get similar results from a thicker grind say 1/4 hollow.

Check out the makers mentioned keep your eye out on BST here and I'm sure you will find something that suits your taste and your wallet.

I have a Dorco listed on ebay right now. it is 15/16 wide. There is a reserve of $179.00. I bought it New old stock a few years ago but only used it a couple of times.

Herr Razors on ebay has larger razors at what I call a reasonable price, I bought a 26mm razor from him last winter and it is well constructed. I do own a Portland Razor as well and would agree with the above statement that it is quality and may also be a good option for you.

Herrs are indeed fair-priced, but they are all of 1/4 grind (at least all that I asked him about). Portlands are definitely an option - but full hollow or bellied are also considered as custom by them.

Thanks! I've just ordered a #14 Sub Cero from Spain! Hope it's in a as good a condition as the photos implied. The price surely was legit.

I spelled it correctly on ebay.

I was unaware that they did full hollows, do you know this for a fact?

If you refer to PRC, their "Custom" page says the following:
"Our production razors are quarter-hollow, but let us know if you are looking for something more or less hollow. Pricing: starts at +$100"
So I guess yes, they can do a full hollow one for a price (I wouldn't believe they stop at half hollow only).

You can get an 8/8 full hollow from this guy. But you never know what's going to pop up for sale, and generally they sell for a pretty penny and sell extremely fast.

I wasn't familiar with his website though, so saved the link for the rainy day (or the opposite of it) :)

By the way, neither Koraat or Revisor razors are mass-produced in any way; both are small operations.

Yes indeed, but they both have certain established models they sell in bulks (well, relatively) for moderate prices - not unlike mass-produced ones.

If you want a proper full hollow, you need to get it from a bladesmith that uses a double wheel grinder, something costume razor makers do not typically have in their garage.

I understand what you meant. I just felt mass-produced was a bit misplaced, because when you buy a Revisor or Koraat (or an Aust, for that matter), you get a razor that was pretty much manufactured by one craftsman. From pre-manufactured ("standard") blanks, indeed. I would say 'production razors' would be the appropriate term.

And Ulrik (i.e. Koraat) does a lot of customisation on his razors, blurring the lines between custom and production razors.

I just mentioned this, as some people seem to regard these production razors as less special, or individualized, than "custom" razors, which I feel sells these manufacturers short.

To me, production razor manufacturers, especially Aust and Revisor, represent a piece of living history.
