What doesthe term bellied mean on extra hollow straights?
Maybe some of you can help me with my confusion on bellied blades. I bought a Boker Silver steel, and heard it was a bellied blade because its extra hollow. I noticed that when looking at the cross section view of the heel the blade taper on the heel to the cutting edge is thicker than my Ralf Aust full hollow.
For example: cross section veiw at the bottom of the tang to the bottom of the heel to the cutting edge, the taper is much thicker than a regular hollow grind blade. Is this the belly? I have been reading up on this subject on the forums, but still kinda confused. Some guys posted images of a (bellied) blades, and it shows a cross section of the toe of the blade, and yes i can see a bellied portion a few mm above the cutting edge.On my silver steel the toe shows no belly. Confused??😒
