Antique Store "Warranted" "Cast Steel"

I'm very new to all things Straight Razor, so my experience is limited to what I've been able to find searching google and this forum. Browsing my local Antique Store I found this razor and at first I thought very little of it because there was no maker info. However, after reading about other "Warranted" "Cast Steel" razors I went back and picked it up for $20.

I think the Scales might be wood, but I can't tell if the details are somehow stamped or carved. The wedge between the scales seems to have been replaced, someone did a sloppy job fitting/sanding that area (I didn't capture that in a pic, sorry). It is half hollow, I don't see much hone ware, but the toe has a bit of a smile.

Thoughts?

That looks very nice! Go over it with some 0000 Steel Wool and metal polish and it will shine up quite a bit

There were several Sheffield companies that sold "low end" razors as warranted cast steel in the late 1800s/early 1900s. By "low end" I mean no frills.
The scales are probably pressed celluloid. It should clean up, hone, and shave well.

As an opinion, The blade looks like it had a bit of soap on it and was laid upon its side as the show side is clean of corrosion.
It should clean up nicely and be a good shaver!

Looks like a good way to get your feet wet and sore fingers into the beginning stages of restoring. Good find. Get to cleaning it up and see what come of it. Then check back in with it and see what folks think the next step should be. It might come clean with steal wool and polish or WD40 for a lube. Go for it!

I love those scales. This razor should serve you well after a bit of TLC. Well done!

Thanks for all the feedback! I don't think it will happen fast, but whenever I get any progress on this one I'll post some new images. I also picked up a super cheap razor that I'm going to practice on. And of course now I'm researching honing....

Doing your research before you buy will help you get the right stuff. Do you have a strop?

yeah, I have a simple hanging strop that also has a piece of synthetic material. I picked up a couple of buffing wheels and compounds that I'm using on my practice razor, going slow and getting shiny :)
