Something is worth on any given day what a buyer will pay and a seller will accept. If that satisfies both the seller and buyer then you have the essence of a good deal regardless of what others may think. At least that is the way I look at it.

I too cant justify a grand for a razor. But some folks collect the rare in excelant NOS condition. If i was a collector of fine razors, id thi k about it. But its beyond me. Plus my wife would kill me.
BTW, i have a seven day set of Mappin razors in Ivory scales. Got them at a steel. And the guy who sold them to me will catch that pun. Ha.
Still wasnt 1k.
This thread nicely expresses one of the major reasons why valuations are not permitted on the forum.
Also, in case it didn't come across, I'm not really sure I want to sell that thing anyway. I'm sure you've heard of "buyer's remorse," but have you heard of "sellers remorse?" The pain is real...
Some are fairly new to this....Some razors command high prices.
Not only because they shave great, but because they are collectible.
Dylan put that thing up because if it brought a premium, he would sell it.
If not? He would keep it. It was explained quite clearly in the listing.
No need to have a sour grapes thread about it!
I have 3 of the things. At the time I bought them, I paid the premium as I am certain he did as well. We are fortunate he has offered it to forum brethren first, IMO.
If you don't want to buy it, don't! Plain and simple. Buy the other one!
Which other one, you say?
Want a pair? 2 grand won't buy them!
NOT for sale! :D

BTW, They shave awesomely!
Just keep it, Dylan! ;)
Cool box, dude!!!
Ok, I'm just going to write my initial thought upon seeing that pair...
"Oh, my holy crap!"
Sorry guys! Didn't mean to offend anyone. There is so much more I have to understand about straight razors. Never in a million years would I have thought these things were that collectable or valuable.
So that you can understand my mindset, I have only 20 of these straight razors. 1 modern Dovo that my son gave me for Xmas. I know he paid a pretty price for it. I will not invest more than $50.00 in a straight razor. I have some of the Sheffield type, Germany, and early American and I assure that I paid less than $25.00 for each. I had to restore them to a shaving condition. To me, they serve one purpose - Great shaves and no more money for modern disposables.
I have seen FBU's go for a grand........Nice ones.
Every day, people are paying-up for these things and sanding them into oblivion and scaling them with acrylic, dropping, ruining, overbuffing, and sending the rarity up for several decades I know of.
Stuff is getting scarce in good original nick.
No worries, John! We know you are a good dude!;)
You may just dive-in on the listing next time and ask 'why the hell so MUCH?'.
We should be with you there and explain.
Yes....It's silly! That is the world of collectibles. Always some things go beyond comprehension. Yet they do! :D
Forget I said anything, John.....I said nothing.
For your OWN good! :ziplip:
