You can change the color of hydrangeas by sticking nails in the soil. On the other hand you can kill grass permanently with brass filings. You have to dig out the dirt to make it grow there again. Good way to prank people you hate by writing profane names in their lawn...not that I have ever done it.

Now...Back in the asbestos days they used to have grinders that would 'arc' brake shoes to fit the diameter of the drum perfectly.

That blade looks nothing like I found in my yard. Rusty, yes. Just not built-up like that.
Look at the big buildup on bottom of the tang at the pivot. You can see where the scale was.
A toxic celluloid-scaled razor in the ground for a while. Is that what the fuzzy rust means?

I found a railroad spike in salt water that looked similar to the OP.
I brought it home and the thing expanded and fell apart. I have it somewhere in a plastic bag unless my wife threw it away..........
