    Default Thomas Jeffersons razor

Got to visit Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia) and got to see some artifacts including his razor (so they say). He died in 1826 but the razor looked newer than that to me (especially the tail). They won't let you take pictures in there but the guide let me take a picture of the item in a catalog they keep there of the artifacts.(which didn't come out very well.) It is a frame back with ivory scales of a unknown maker. It does describe a mark of "four hearts touching at the points". The guide said if i can find out anything about it to let them know as they are always looking for info.
    Here it is.

Well I guess a description of the makers mark is a start. I am not familiar with it. I’m with you though on the part where it does not look like a pre 1826 razor.

My name is Thomas Jefferson and I dropped that razor as I was headed into Independence Hall.
Would like to recover that. You should hear from the magistrate.
    Regards,
    Thomas

Well, that could be the one he used in his late days... It would fit.
If there was any previous one, it would be hard attributing it to the person.

Beautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Judge with your skin, not your eyes.

The description of the mark makes me think Not Sheffield.

What I know of Jefferson makes me think it most likely French (if it really did belong to him), but that doesn't look right for a French razor of the era.

The frameback aspect puts it as probably no earlier than 1805.
