Here we go
I cant help, but id say its a fake and made last year. Send it to me and i will dispose of it for ya properly.
Nice find. :beer1:
Boy, you are such a nice guy. Always willing to make a sacrifice and take one for the team. LOL!
Thats a unique mark, SOMEBODY on here should be able to help (just not me!)
Yep, I haven't found any clues.
The mark "Crown over E" has been used on firearms manufactured in St Etienne, France, where there also has been razor production. But this must be a Sheffield made razor, considering the over-all look, and the Sheffield town mark being a crown.
Possibly a cutler who's name begins with an E...
Maybe Swedish Nils Grönstrand
It almost certainly isn't Sheffield and it probably isn't French.
Sorry I can't be more helpful!
Nils Grönstrand did use the E crown pipe stamp. I haven't seen one where the stamp or razor looked like that, but that doesn't mean anything. The top razor is one and I have a similar one shape and all but my stamp is unreadable other than the pipe.

Two razors stamped with a pipe, made by Nils Grönstrand who was a knifesmith, grinder and champion in Eskilstuna Fristad. In 1801 he was elected councilor in Eskilstuna. Note the Fristad stamp, crown E, on the upper knife. Eskilstuna Stadsmuseum. Photo: Torbjörn Eriksson.
Here is mine.

The whole Sweedish cutlery/tool production story is an interesting one, that produced some great Knives, Razors and edge tools.
I have recently been collecting Erick Anton Berg chisels and plane blades. (Shark stamp) they are super hard good steel, even the handles were hand made of select, burled birch. His razors are also shavers.
This one’s for you Marty, E. A. Berg 5/8, remarkably NOS. I bought it from a country store on the bay, bad images and all, no box. Had to ask for the width. Rolled the dice and won for a change. Scales are hard rubber with collarless pins, oddly. There’s a Swedish gentleman on another forum that has both a 4/8 and 5/8 with the same scales. They made a 6/8 which was rarer. This one dates to the 1890s according to him, but between 1891 and 1914 according to popular knowledge of the stamps.
Those Berg chisels go high!
Cheers, Steve
Very disappointed in this. I hate when people only use this site to get info on razors to sell for high prices. I want to help people interested in these not money. Every razor this guy has posted on here shows up on the bay at high prices using our info that we gave him.
Yes, very disappointing indeed and it happens all too often.
Bob
I'm sorry you feel that way and do somewhat understand you. On the other hand, I see a problem when experts take the advantage of uninformed sellers and pay peanuts for rare collectibles? I also think it's a good thing that people get a chance to buy these items described in a proper way. And being from the U.S. you probably believe in a free market with prices based on supply and demand? I don't really see how you are affected by this? The possibility of prices going up should be positive for those who has a collection.
Also, I have asked about two straights...
Not my business.. however :)
Rideon66 goes to some effort to give information as a kind gesture.
Not for others to make money.
I'll take a neutral stand on this, but I think it would be better if you'd ask, where can find info on a particular name or stamp mark. Once you've gone thru countless hours of searching to find what you want to know, you might understand why some are pissed at what your doing. I'm about as clueless as they come, on this subject, but I've asked for directions before, did my own research, and found what I needed to know, at least as much as I could. Found the company was only around for 1 1/2 years.
So there's a bunch of time and work to do this, and your taking advantage of it, is what's being said.
Or maybe..."you" go to work all day, and I'll cash "your" check, so to speak.
BTW, nice razor.!
I totally agree. I use other people's knowledge, but not to hustle anyone, rather to get a fair price for an object. And though I've done quite some research I sometimes get stuck. And I honestly can't see what's to loose, sharing your knowledge? Bitterness over someone else getting a fair price isn't my cup of tea. I'm very grateful for the help I received in these two cases, and I guess the potential buyer's are too.
Well first half of what you are asking for that is not peanuts. That blade will require a lot of work. The edge is chipped and the steal maybe crumbly there too. There is lots of pitting and it will require a lite restoration. Some would unpin and have even more hours of work into that. Plus if that scale is truly cracked at the pivot point it will require new scales. Then you still need to do a lot of work sharpening. If you sent that to a restorer for lite restoration and possible new scales it will cost you a few hundred just to make her work. Scales alone can be 100 or more. There is a reason you haven't sold it at that price and have to relist it. Well known vendors who do full restorations and regrinds with high end scales added in only ask about that much or a few more. Someone may bite sooner or later, but sadly it maybe because of the info you got from us.
Now I like to find these old girls in somewhat usable condition do lite restorations sharpen and use them in my everyday shaving. I like to learn about the makers and well as much knowledge as I can about the blade and when it was possibly made. In doing so many on here have been very helpful in finding this info and answers. So I like to give back and help others on here when I can. This is fun and a hobby. I don't usually sell much either and when I do it is to put back into another blade for my personal enjoyment. That is what this forum is about. Not for a business venture.
There is a reason these forums have rules. Like not posting in the forum pics of things you are selling. That is what the paid sale forum is for. If we allowed everyone to do this these forums would be over run with vendors and there products trying to sell and some of them are unscrupulous too.
Sorry but if you want to find info you can dig for it. It is in here. You just need to spend the hours searching for it like the rest of us. There are a lot of places you can look online and you may get lucky.
Again these forums are about sharing info. Not just for you. Are you starting to understand. I am not trying to get on you or insult you here I am hoping you will understand why we do not appreciate when people do this.
Celebrated.... I have to say, that razor looks to be in good condition, for being 200+ years old. All of it can be salvaged, and restored. At least all but the pins, that is.
Ive restored a few of them, by hand. All are put back together, with their original hardware and scales.
My heart is more into restoration, and personal use. But also, should times get tough or for some reason I can't shave with them anymore, I can sell them for waaay more than I paid for them, and still at a respectful price.
A little eye candy..

The one in black scales, belongs to one of are members from the great white north. ( Canda )
The scales on all these, were worse than yours
I can understand both points of view. On the one hand, when I personally buy on the fleabay, I like to be correctly informed about the pedigree of the item, and I appreciate the OP's commitment to do so. But on the other hand, this particular forum exists in order to meet like-minded individuals and to enrich our hobby - not our wallets. That's why the OP's attitude, while not against the rules, is disappointing to many nevertheless.
May be, for future sake, we should discuss a way to bridge between the two approaches, and to officially anchor it into the rules? How about the OP to state in advance the info is for selling the item? Or for him to offer it here on the forum first - before going to the bay? Any other suggestions?
I agree with Dimab.
If a seller wants the collective info of our members, then the members should get first crack at the piece
I'd much rather buy from our BST, over the Bay. First off, the seller can be trusted a lot more, and its going to be a decent razor, least told otherwise.
He could also state his purpose and make a donation to SRP. That way the SRP community would get some benefit too.
