Cristel Solingen
Anyone seen one like this. No maker's name. My wife found it clearing out her late father's house. Interested in dating, to know whether it was father or grandfather that would have owned/used it.
I think the rust on the cutting edge rules it out as a shaver.

Never seen a Cristel razor, but it looks like something from the 50s.
Despite the oxidation at edge, I wouldn’t discount it as not being a shaver. From the photo the bevel looks pretty good and can likely be made clean and free of any microchips with a reset on a 1k stone.

I'd agree that you just may be able to save that edge and get a shaver out of the deal.
If you want to wade through the link you may be able to find who belonged to the "Crystal" trade mark.

I shave with razors on a regular basis that have had or even still have more rust than that. Be careful cleaning around that gold wash though. That will come off relatively easily with sanding or polishing.
-
Cover the gold wash and etching with some electric tape and clean it up with some metal polish.
-
I would shave with it after a very light cleaning and a bevel reset. Looks to be of good quality, having the Solingen stamp is a good indicator of its quality.
That is the first and only 'Cristel' razor I've seen in my 12+ years researching straight razors. I have a couple of first and only ones in my collection; a Franafa and a Bing, both Solingen and both great shavers.

That rust is nothing. It's easy to clean up and it should be a top notch shaver.
I never heard of the brand either but back in the day the Solingen area contained so many cutlers there are many names we have never heard of. There were many one man shops doing contract work and large outfits making razors for jobbers and retail stores all over the world.

Made a typo on a razor brand; its Pranafa instead of Franafa.....sorry!
