Quick & Easy Question
I've been straight razor shaving for a couple of years now. But I haven't gotten brave enough to try restoring or working on them yet. I have one razor - a great shaver - but it's loose in the scales. Can I tighten the pin any without damaging anything? I love using the razor but don't like it "flopping" around when I'm handling it. Thanks in advance!

Sure you can tighten her up. A tiny jewelers anvil is ideal, but any solid surface and some light but firm taps from a little ballpeen hammer are all you need. Just be careful and use lots of little taps around the pin. just tap around the edge and it will snug right up.

Using a heavy soup spoon also works in lieu of a small ball peen hammer. Lots of little taps all around the pin being careful to not whack the scales.

Probably, post some pics of the razor,
Some use escutcheon pins in place of pins and collars, and must be peened from only one side.

The collar looks deteriorated on the one side. You can try to tighten it but it looks like a good candidate for a new pin and collars. Ajkenne is a member here and he has an eBay store. A good source for your pins and collars.

Some additional info I picked up several years ago from one of the older members on tightening or repinning the scales: as stated above use lots of light taps. By light taps I mean if you hit your thumb and it hurts, you are hitting too hard.
