Just received this razor to refirb. I've put an edge on it to make sure all is ok before I spend any time sanding/polishing. I bought the razor because it looked to be very well ground and also I didn't own an American made razor. Is anyone familiar with the manufacturer, C. S. Co. Maybe the razor is made by Clauss? :shrug:

Any Fremont razor I have had was quite good. Typical American hard steel.
Yep. Good Amarican Razors are hard to beat.

I don't have anything that early but I have a later Claus which is a great razor. I love the American steel from that period. Takes a little more doing to hone but it holds a very good edge.
I gave the razor a synth progression. 1, 3, 5k Choseras then to Snow White 8k and finished on a Japanese natural. Test shave last night. Shave was ok but not great. Very smooth but lacking some keen. Yes, hard steel. Certainly took some time to work through the synths. And at Jnat took some work to create a Kasumi. I will put a bit more time into refining the edge on the Jnat coz i know there were still some 8k stria under that Kasumi. (I got lazy) Looking forward to cleaning it up and fitting some nice scales. Be careful honing, those blades are thin and flex easily. If you use too much pressure, you can easily flex the blade and lift the edge off the stone so you are honing the back of the bevel and not the edge.
Inking the edge will help you gage your pressure and keep the edge on the stone. It should take a keen Jnat edge.
