Can anyone tell me if the new boker razors have improved in quality & edge retention in the last few years.
Never knew they had a problem. Last one I bought was 8-9 years ago.
I've owned a few king cutters & 1 7/8 limited edition & the edge seemed to fail , especially with the king cutters I would re-home them & had a real problem getting a close comfortable shave without irritation..
Granted it could be that they are not a good fit for me.
Love my Boker! Have never had a problem with it honing or keeping an edge! A really great shaver. But mine is an older one. Sorry you are experiencing this!

I wonder if the the first part of the blade has been over heat treatment, and too brittle to hold an edge. Have you checked with a loupe for what's happening. ?
I own a couple newer razors, that were that way. Once I honed it several times, the edge finally stopped degrading. My only thought on your situation, assuming your a veteran shaver by your membership here.
Not sure if its an edge retention problem or poor geometry or both.
I've had a few Bokers and overall the bevel angle is lower than most others leading to quicker edge failure.
They are very well ground - very thin blades and spines on the thinner side as well.
They take wonderful edges for the most part though.
I brought a Boker #14 last year and have been very happy with it. The fit, finish and grinding is excellent.
Not sure what I have but it's a Boker and its great.
Pretty, easy to hone, holds an edge and shaves like a dream.
Is it a carbon steel or stainless you're asking about? I have zero experience with the new Bokėr stuff but in general I just distrust stainless for razors. I own one and it sucks so I never bought another.
They sure do make some nice looking carbon steel stuff though. It's great that they're still at it. I would love to see some new production here in America in the "razor belt."
Thanks for replies Gents
I am looking at the limited edition Bicycle race 5/8 & Barbers Choice 5/8 & just to muddle it up a bit a Spanish point horn scaled Ralf aust.
If any member has got one of these razors can you let me knowing what you think of them.
Cheers Paul
There is nothing wrong with stainless in a razor. As long as it's a quality alloy you couldn't tell the difference between it and carbon steel. I have a Dovo and a few Maestro Livi pieces I got years ago.
As far as Boker goes I have an LE Damascus they made a few years ago and it's a great razor.
