I have no idea about the razors I was given and looking for help to identify them.
Welcome to the group.
Keep in mind we will not tell you what a razor is worth. That is against the rules of the forum. But we can help identify them. Put a makers name to them, let you know if they are worth restoring or if you should just send them out for honing. Or if they are beyond help and can only be used an envelope opener. Or are possible just Razor Shaped Objects.
If your interested in learning to shave with them we can help point you in the right direction. Just tell us a bit more about what your interests are in razors.
Hi Yes they are lovely but I wouldn't be able to use them. I'm curious about them
We have no idea about them, either.
Try posting pics. A razor has a "show" side and a "back" or "down" side. The show side is the one with usually the most stamping or etching. If you open the razor a bit and the scales (you probably think they are a handle but they are not. They are not for gripping the razor, only for protecting it.) are angled downward and the razor itself (the "blade") is angled upward, you are looking at the show side. Open it all the way up, so the scales and razor are more or less inline. With the edge down, the top part where it is thickened, is the spine. The bottom of course is the edge. The corner bit of the edge nearest the pivot is the heel. The corner but of the edge all the way out at the tip end is the toe. The very end of the blade is the nose. The narrow part that goes back to the pivot pin is the shank. The part from the pivot back to the monkey tail looking bit is the tang, though the terms "tang" and "shank" are also sometimes used for the whole handle area. The part that looks like a curly monkey tail is the monkeytail. The pivot is of course the pin which forms a joint allowing the razor to be closed up between the scales, or opened up for use. Now you have the nomenclature.
Readers who might respond will be very interested in any stamping on the shank, as well as any etching on the wide open "billboard" area of the blade. Also any bolsters on the scales or any inlaid silver wire or whatever. So you want careful lighting for good contrast, and good closeup pics to post.
You might begin with maybe 4 or 5 of them, partly open, in one pic, just for an overview, and then the requisite closeups.
Once you have posted good, clear pics, someone can tell you what you have or probably have, and whether it is junk or something usable or restorable.
Other clues might be the circumstances of the "giving", particularly who gave them and why, and where they came from before that.
You might also want to introduce yourself to the members. https://sharprazorpalace.com/member-introductions/ and tell us a little about yourself.
Hi I can't see where I can post pictures so my opening line wasn't too bright! 🙃
Could you possibly point me in right direction please?
An old gentlemen whom my daughter cleans for gifted them to her as he said he doesn't use them anymore.
Thank you. Don't know how to though!
You have to figure it out.
I'm one of the least techy guys around and I can do it.
Third icon from right in tool bar, hover mouse over it - it says insert image - click
Either from computer or URL - select computer - find image - double click to select - click insert image - done.
Nobody can give you any useful information without a photo so its up to you.
Ah could be I'm on my mobile!
You can also use a app like Imgur to load your pics to then just link here
HOWEVER
If you delete them from that app it will delete them here too leaving a hole in our data :(
We would much rather have them loaded through the forum
I'll charge up the PC later and do it properly.
Thank you for your patience 🙏 ☺️

My vidcap app did not pick up the file selection dialog because I had it on window and not full screen but it will look different from yours anyway. I am assuming you are using WinDOHs or Mac and I don't use those. But quite simply here is how you do it.
Click "Reply", or "Reply to Thread".
In the reply box header, find the icon, probably third from the left, and hover your mouse on it. it should say in a little pop-up tool-tip, "Insert Image". Click on it.
A dialog will pop up and you have a choice of "From Computer" or "From URL". Click "From Computer"
Click "Choose File"
Navigate to the pic you want to post, and select it.
Click "Upload File". You will see some xml code appear in your reply window. Now type whatever you want to say in your post that goes with the pic you are posting.
Click "Post Quick Reply".
Alternately click "Go Advanced" and then PREVIEW your post.
The brands and models are not junk. So it depends on the condition of the razors but they are at a guess, suitable for having them honed and used, possibly full restoration on some. The Gotta in particular has a bit of a following.
The first thing I would do is wipe a THIN coating of petroleum jelly on the razors, just the steel, don't get any on the scales. This will help to prevent rust. With that precaution, and storing them in a dry place, they will keep for a very long time and there is no hurry to dispose of them.
Factors in their usability and desireability are chips in the edge, cracks, rust, heavy pitting, scratches, obvious sanding or buffing marks, heat marks, and so on. Like already said, we can't give estimate of value here.
Can't tell your gender from your profile but I will go out on a limb and say if you are female, you might ask your male relatives if any have ever contemplated shaving with a proper razor in the manly fashion or not. If no takers, you could post them one by one on ebay and you should have no problem disposing of them. How much you will get is anybody's guess. Me speculating would be perilously close to an appraisal, which is against the rules here. Make sure your pics are very clear. Whatever you do, do NOT list them as "shave ready", because they are most likely not. You don't want any angry returns or bad feedback on your ebay account. Unfortunately you can't post them for sale here in the "Buy Sell Trade" subforum as you do not have enough posts yet for BST privileges.
You can always just hang on to them.
Some few women shave pits and legs with straight razors, but not many. A few appreciate when hubby or BF does it for them. Just sayin. A basic level of skill is of course required to make this an enjoyable experience instead of a bloodbath.
From your phone you go to the bottom of the page, any page, and select the full site mode. Not mobile mode. This will make your phone act as a pc when displaying. Then you can upload as was stated above. I too am not great on the computer stuff but after a bit of time i muddle through it.
Will be waiting to see what you have.
