Is a shumate president SR a good one??
ANY Shumate (in.good condition) is a good one. I'm not familiar with that particilar one but Shumate was vintage American steel and workmanship in their hay day. It's great steel that is ground well, takes and holds a fantastic edge. Most of the ones I have are not fancy, just really, really good.
Shumate razors have been well regarded for many years.
Thank you for the information I am in a bit of a collecting phase and trying to get info before purchases
Let's see some pics.

Well the model name sounds like it would be fancy and that one looks more dolled up than most Shumates I've seen. It has the scale bolsters which is a nice touch. Looks in the first picture like it has a scalloped spine but (correct me if I'm wrong) that is just a product of the picture pixelating after being blown up. Whatever the case, it looks really nice. It seems to be in good shape: no chips or visible cracks, not excessively hone worn, no major loss of blade width or dimension loss (toe or heel worn away from too much heavy honing) and if you can see it better than we can you can probably better judge these things. If so, and I assume this is the reason for your quearie, then if bought you will not be disappointed with its performance. Shumate, Robeson, Case, Cattaraugus, Clauss, Geneva/ Genco, and there are many others, any of those brands of American razors from that time period are fabulous performers. Shumate in partucular seems to have had a function over form mindset as most of the ones I've seen at least are not flashy or sexy looking but they are ergonomic, they hone well and stay that way and shave great. The one thing about a lot of those razors from that era is that it takes a little more work to get them honed because the steel is very hard. The up side is that they stay that way for a good long while.
I figured this razor was in goid shape. Pretty sure it has never been. Used oe seen a hone!!! I thought it was odd that on the box it says to shave with it flat on your face.
